A great week in Turkey, with the option to go for a selection of walks, all with a different aspect to them or alternatively if you wish to lie by the pool and have a beer you can do just that.  Nice local hotel, quiet and simple.  Came back very relaxed.

What was the most inspirational moment of your trip?

Loved the ruined city of Arycanda - a whole city with practically no tourists.

The sea kayaking was an experience, although must admit I was expecting slightly more from the sunken city of Kekova.

Turkish food, especially the sea-food is delicious.

What did you think of your group leader?
Great guy - and good fun - but why do they always have to be so good looking?
Do you have any advice for potential travellers?

Dont expect to be able to afford any food or drink at Dalaman airport - the place is extortionate.

Is there anything else you would like to add?
If your looking for a chill out week - based in one hotel - I cant recommend this trip enough.  Seriously considering doing it again as Kas is a really cool place.

A great mix of  walking, interesting historical sites and relaxing on beaches and cafes. Hotel was comfortable and my  room was a spacious  double with its own balcony well worth the single  supplement. Food was excellent and the group was great

The holiday fulfilled my expectations, because I am an experienced kayaker, and therefore fairly independent  and not in need of significant supervision by the group leader. I am aware that some of the less experienced kayakers were less happy.

What was the most inspirational moment of your trip?

    There was no one moment.

    I enjoyed the kayaking.

I enjoyed having the benefits of the support boat. The skipper was charming and responsive to requests. The food on the boat was delicious.

The days itineraries were well planned with manageable distances and well-timed breaks for a swim, lounge on a beach or exploration of an island.

The accommodation on land was adequate and welcome, to be able to have a shower and my own space with privacy - essential on a group holiday with starngers

What did you think of your group leader?

I thought she was delightful as a person, and clearly a strong and able kayaker, who has the potential to be a good group leader.

She offered her mobile number, in case we wanted to contact her, but did not press it on us. It was up to us to choose whether to take it. She treated us with respect and as mature responsible adults. I suspect her youth might have been a challenge for her as leader of a group of older, strong minded and at times opinionated individuals, some with considerable egos.

Her lack of experence as a kayak group leader was evident, and this is an area where time will lead to learning. Perhaps more time spent as assistant to a more experienced group leader would help. It is important that she is aware at all times of the abilities, strengths and weaknesses of the individuals in her group. She was not always aware when people were ill (sea sick), and it was left to others in the group to look out for and after unwell group members. She needs to keep the group closer together on the water. At times the group was spread out over a considerable distance. Her assistant also must be more disciplined and keep his place at the rear, instead of joining her at the head of the group, particularly when there are group members who are unwell, less experienced and less fit than those at the front.

Is there anything else you would like to add?

I was pleased to be able to sleep on deck on the support boat on 3 nights. It made the holiday for me. I would not have enjoyed having to camp in a tent.

I was annoyed that I had asked beforehand for confirmation that we could sleep on the boat, and had been informed in no uncertain terms that we would not. I asked, because I had been told that we would be able to, and I wanted to know what equipment I needed to take. I had bought a sleep mat (expensive) for the tent, which I did not need. I could have done without the cost and having to carry it in my luggage.

This is a very well thought out short safari tour. If you can onl get away for a week then this should be on your list of tours to do. The focus of the tour being on predators, cubs and kills takes it to a higher level than a normal safari.

What was the most inspirational moment of your trip?
Probably the cheetah mother with 6 cubs, given a close run by the topi birth
What did you think of your group leader?
At lot has already been said about Paul Goldstein on the reviews. I'll just add that if you can find anybody better at this job than him then I'll be very surprised.
Do you have any advice for potential travellers?

Take a smaller top loading camera bag for usage in the land cruisers as camera rucksacs can be a bit fiddly.

and watch out for the booby trapped camp stool .....

Is there anything else you would like to add?

This is a full on safari. The location is fantastic as is the camp and all of the camp staff. The drivers deserve medals for the hard work they put in.  There's a reason that this holiday is booked out 12 months in advance and that is because quality always sells.

I enjoyed the area, the walks and the company of the group - it was better than what I expected. I did not enjoy the travel to Kas and the the hotel. Concerning travel - I do not understand why we had to fly Turkish Airways to Istanbul and then transfer to a flight to Antalya and then transfer the same evening by road a 3hr trip to KAS.  I left London at 11 in the morning and arrived at the holtel in KAS by 5 am the next morning. There were alternative direct flights to Antalya.  Also why not stay the nightat Antalya andtransfer the next morning to KAS.  Same with return flight - why not transfer the previous evening to a hotel in Antalya?  As far as hotels go, we were promised basic and I can live with basic.  However, I believe not to have hot water on a winter holiday is a bit below basic.  At times I did not have any water!!

What did you think of your group leader?
Very knowledgeble and accommodating - did a good job.
Do you have any advice for potential travellers?
It is actually a wonderful area to go to and I higly recommend going during winter months.  However unless Exodus drastically improves travel and accommodation arrangements I will not recommend to anyone to go there with Exodus.

    Exodus Response

    Dear Mr Grobler,

Thank you for taking the time to write a review of your recent trip, feedback is extremely important to us. I am sorry to hear you are unsatisfied with certain aspects of your holiday. I would like to address these points and inform you what action we are now taking as a result.

Regarding the flight arrangements, it's clear the flights used were not the most convenient. In previous winters we have been unable to find a suitable alternative, as there is not the same range of carriers outside of high season. However, I have been investigating the possibility of using different flights for next winter's departures and am pleased to say we will be using direct flights this December to ensure our groups have the best possible journey to their holiday.Regarding your accommodation, it is clear there were some problems with hot water during your stay. I have been in contact with our local partners to investigate what was causing the problem, so that we can take the appropriate steps to avoid a repeat.

I am glad you liked the local area and the leader, and I would like to assure you that we always strive for the highest standards on our holidays and I hope you will consider travelling with us again.

    Many thanks

    Tom

This was my first Exodus holiday and my first group holiday travelling alone, so I wasn't sure what to expect. But I needn't have worried; it was a great experience thanks to the wonderful setting and the excellent local guide, Alison. It was also my first time in Turkey and I was very impressed: great food, beautiful scenery, friendly people and, of course, wonderful weather. Kas is a great town, with real character.

What was the most inspirational moment of your trip?

The sea-kayaking was great, although I have to admit I was concentrating too hard on staying up right to actually see any ruins under the sea!

Also watching the sun set from one of the bars in Kas, drinking cocktails and enjoying the company of other members of the group.

And getting up in the morning to eat breakfast outside at the hotel, surrounded by bright pink bougainvillea and pomegranate trees laden with ripe fruit.

What did you think of your group leader?

Alison, the group leader, was great. Approachable, extremely knowledgeable and fun. She had some really interesting insights into cultural differences between the UK and Turkey. She was also very skilled at managing a group with a fairly wide age range and differing fitness levels.

Do you have any advice for potential travellers?

This trip is rated moderate, but really I would say it was easy. None of the walks was more than four hours, with plenty of time given for breaks and not a lot of exertion, although at times it was quite uneven under foot so lightweight walking boots are a good idea rather than trainers. Cover up for the sun is definitely needed - even in late September when I went.

Check out the great jewellery shops in Kas.

Is there anything else you would like to add?
I had a really great holiday and will definitely be travelling again with exodus.
