Gulet Cruise

Day 1
On arrival there should be time to explore the Firnaz port area of Kalkan.

Day 2
We transfer to Saklikent Gorge by bus, a spectacular natural phenomenon cut from the Taurus mountains by the fast-flowing Esen River. Here we have the option to enter the gorge and wade up river, marvelling at the towering sides and rock formations. There is also the chance for some optional tubing, which involves floating down river in a large rubber inner tube and is great fun. After lunch we head back towards the boat, stopping at one of the best beaches in the area - Kaputas beach -for a spot of swimming.

Day 3
Relaxing cruise to Kas in time for lunch. En route we pass the spectacular Kaputas beach and the Blue Cave. In the afternoon there is optional SCUBA diving. For beginners we suggest a 'Try Dive' course, which includes a one-on-one dive with an instructor.This is offered by our highly recommended local diving school operated by our Turkish partner. Qualified divers can dive from the boat. To participate you must be in good health, and will be asked to sign a medical disclaimer and doctors certificate for any medical conditions. Day 4
Today we cruise to Aperlai and visit the ancient city. En route we pop in to small bays for swimming and snorkeling stops. Aperlai was a huge Lycian city best known for appearing on coins minted there. To reach the site you must come by boat or walk making it one of the least spoilt and most evocative ancient sites in the region. We get dropped off at the narrowest point of the isthmus and walk across to the other side (the direct walk is about 20 mins but there are many ruins to explore to the north of the track). The boat is waiting for us on the far side.

Day 5
Today we have the chance to explore via sea kayak, a fun and easy way to see the sights. We concentrate on Kekova, a long thin island separated from the mainland by an earthquake which left many of the buldings of the ancient settlement below the water line. The area between the mainland and the island is lagoon-like due to the narrow entrances which of course pose no obstacle to our kayaks. We also visit the ancient city of Simena topped by a Crusader Castle. Those wishing to climb up to the castle are rewarded with excellent views. See extra expenses for entry fee.

Day 6
We cruise to Demre, and visit the ancient harbour of Andriake. Andriake was once an important harbour town in both Lycian and Roman times, and evidence of this is still visible today in the form of grain silos, an aqueduct and an Agora (place of assembly). There is also the option of a visit to the nearby Lycian city of Myra, with an impressive theatre and church of St Nicholas. This St. Nicholas is indeed the one more commonly known as Father Christmas or Santa Claus and the proximity of the ancient port is the reason that he is also the Patron Saint of Sailors. A short transfer would be needed for this excursion, hence the price would depend on the number of participants.

Day 7
Free day in Kas, with optional paragliding for the more adventurous and adrenaline seeking. The start point is 1,000 metres above sea level and the flight takes us out over Kas and the surrounding islands. Alternatively, take a second chance to dive at one of the 35 dive sites in the area. We moor and dine at Limanagzi, a beautiful 3 bayed harbour.

Day 8
Transfer to Dalaman; fly to London.
