Countries Visited: Costa Rica
Essential Information
Trip Profile
Travel is by minibus, sometimes on dirt roads, and by boat.
Accommodation
14 nights hotels and eco-lodges which meet 3* standards. All rooms have en suite facilities and most properties have swimming pools.
Food
All breakfasts, 8 lunches and 6 dinners included.
Reality Check
Whilst the driving distances are not long and most roads are good, some roads are not paved and of poor quality which can result in slow driving times. Particularly, this applies to the road to the motorboat on the way to and from Tortuguero and the roads in and out of Monteverde.
The times given in the itinerary are generally accurate, but heavy rain can make travelling times longer. There are several included and optional walks on the itinerary which occasionally involve walking on rough paths. These are suitable for most levels of fitness, and usually last from two to three hours.
Many of the areas visited on the trip are hot and humid, and there is the chance of heavy rain year-round - this is why Costa Rica is so green!
Normal group size and age
Normally 6 to 16, plus leader. Minimum age 16.
Misc
Trip Highlight: Esquinas Rainforest Lodge
Where possible we use small lodges, such as the Esquinas Rainforest Lodge in the Piedras Blancas N.P. This lodge was financed by the Austrian government as part of a model project combining development aid, nature conservation and rainforest research. It has a stream-fed pool, whose outflow is channelled into a pond with caimans. Most employees are local and profits are used to help with projects in the nearby village.
Icons explained
The vast majority of Exodus adventures are adult group holidays. Groups are always small in size. We strongly believe that this adherence to small groups means a better experience for all; more time with your guide, less waiting around and a reduced impact on the communities and environments visited.
Each group is generally made up of like-minded travellers - with singles, couples and friends all joining in together.
All these trips are suitable for single travellers, but if you prefer to travel with clients booking individually, please
see our Solo Departures page.
