This was a comprehensive tour of Iceland; great for seeing all the main sights and locations.  The best thing about this was getting to see parts of the country that a lot of tourists don't have the time or inclincation to see - the real gems were outside the Reykiavik area.

What was the most inspirational moment of your trip?

There were many, but those standing out:

    - Seeing the humpback up close in Husavik.

    - The Lake Myvatn area, including the soltafara field.

    - The beautiful sunlight, well into the evenings.

    - The rich, varied wildlife.

What did you think of your group leader?
David's knowledge of Iceland was outstanding and his passion for the country was obvious.
Do you have any advice for potential travellers?
Most of the time we were very lucky with the weather, however, we did get a lot of rain in the last few days.  Waterproof trousers are essential!  I think I am right in saying that the trip notes didn't state this, so a few of us were caught out.

Brilliant holiday. Utterly, totally brilliant. Great group, wonderful place - a very peaceful country with the most amazingly violent geology.

What was the most inspirational moment of your trip?
The whale-watching trip of a lifetime. I doubt it can be repeated and I'll never forget it. I also loved the of sunshine  - we were lucky (I understand) to have buckets of sunshine and I found it really energising.
What did you think of your group leader?

Funny, very knowledgeable and willing to 'phone a friend' when he didn't know the answer. Great bloke with exceptionally cute kids :0)

Do you have any advice for potential travellers?

The accomodation is more like a normal hotel than the warning on the trip notes might have you believe (in many cases, it pretty much is a normal hotel)!

Is there anything else you would like to add?
    I'll be back!

Brilliant trip especially for anyone interested in landscape, scenery and birds, accommodation is as advertised i.e. basic in places (although clean and comfortable) and slightly inconvenient in one which the leader is intending to address.  If you didn't know beforehand how many types of volcano and lava there are, you'll return having seen them all.

What was the most inspirational moment of your trip?

The historic and geological context of Thingvellir. The concept of the 'democratic' and pragmatic decision making that went on there, coupled with its significance as the place where the North American and European plates are forced apart, amply demonstrated by the appearance of new large holes being actively bridged during our visit.

What did you think of your group leader?
Very sociable and helpful, nothing too much trouble, took us on some interesting side tracks.
Do you have any advice for potential travellers?
We mostly had warm dry sunny weather (90%) but apparently it can rain (or snow) a lot as well.  Plus it's not midnight sun, but it is 24hr daylight in June, take eye shades for sleeping (the sort you sometimes get on long distance flights).
Is there anything else you would like to add?
When on offer walk behind the waterfall, and the optional whale watching I did was excellent (but that's not guaranteed).

A well organized, ably led tour of Iceland, in excellent weather. The tour leader went beyond the basic requirememts of a group leader, the accompanying driver very easily blended in with the group and helped greatly with the running of the tour. The highlights were plentiful.

What was the most inspirational moment of your trip?

The visits to Jokalsarlon (glacial lagoon and close encounters with the bird life); and Hofn (with fantastic views under the "night-time" daylight!!, as well as early morning daylight);  followed by the whale-watching in Husavik, and the visit to Snaesfellness Peninsula were all inspiring. A varied set of experiences from many square Km of lava, to ice-fields, glacier walking, extensive bird life, whale-watching,all in outstanding scenic surroundings. The excellent weather was a bonus, with the "extra" bonus of seeing the sun dip below the horizon only to return a few minutes later without us going into darkness.

I asked Exodus to organize, for me, a visit to the Westmann Islands for our "free day in Reykjavik". This visit (The Pompeii of the North) exceeded all expectations--a full day of exhilarating trips; excellent organization to get to the ferry; a "sea" tour of Heimaey Island with the boat going into 2 caves, and a musical performance in one of them, followed by lunch, then a "land" tour of the Island, including a walk into the Eldfell Crater which erupted in 1973 destroying a large portion of the Town, and nearly closing the Harbour which is so vital to the survival of the community. I recommend that Exodus list this as a possible option for the "free day in Reykjavik" in their brochures.

What did you think of your group leader?
The tour leader (David) was born (and brought up) in Britain. He married an Iceland girl and they are raising  their young family in Iceland. His enthusiasm for the Country and its' way of life was clearly evident.
Is there anything else you would like to add?

This was my 2nd (Exodus) visit to Iceland, and it won't be my last.

What was the most inspirational moment of your trip?
The scenery is just stunning - I particularly loved the waterfalls.
What did you think of your group leader?
The Icelandic tour leader was fab which of course really helped.
Do you have any advice for potential travellers?
Be prepared for shared rather than en suite facilities most nights - our trip notes didn't really make this very clear. Good standards of cleanliness etc though.
Is there anything else you would like to add?
Do a shorter trip if you have to, but this was a good length trip to get more of a feel for the country.

This was an absolutely fantastic trip - highly recommended if you want more than just a whistle-stop tour of Iceland. Amazing scenery, well informed guide, comfortable accommodation - and even decent weather!

What was the most inspirational moment of your trip?
Obvious highlights were the breathtaking scenery, waterfalls, glaciers, mountains, geothermal activity, birdlife, outfalls of years of glacial and volcanic activity, with plenty of stops to walk (including with crampons and ice axe on a glacier!) and explore the landscape. There were so many highlights I wouldn't want to single out just one, but maybe the walk by the glacial lagoon was the most inspirational experience.
What did you think of your group leader?
David was extremely well informed and added so much real value to the trip. His wealth of knowledge about how glaciers and volcanoes had formed the landscape, about geothermal activity, about the Icelandic Sagas, about the best places to eat (and drink!), together with a genuine passion for Iceland and a great sense of humour made the time between stops informative and fun. He made the difference between a really good trip and a really great trip.
Do you have any advice for potential travellers?
My only advice would be to take a headnet to the Lake Myvatn area if you go in the midge season! They don't bite but they are a real nuisance!
Is there anything else you would like to add?
My personal feeling is that there is no better way to experience, rather than just see, Iceland.
