This trip is certainly busy, each day is packed with things to do and see...I loved being with Hector our guide at Pompei and Herculaneum he bought it to life. I would say that the Walk of Gods is an experience although I would say it is fairly difficult in places as it does involve climbing or in my case clambering up some steep rocky outcrops and all those steps at the end !!! what an experience . The hotel its staff/owners and their food can not be faulted in anyway, be prepared to eat lots...

What was the most inspirational moment of your trip?

Being back in Pompei again and although I`m not sure you would call it inspirational but watching the cars trying to squeeze past the bus on those fantastic winding roads has to be a highlight, along with an amazing sunset along the coast.

Watching the pizza`s being made in the kitchen what a great time

What did you think of your group leader?
Mordant (sorry if its not spelt right) was a great group leader his knowledge of the area and country were fautless. The trip ran smoothly even when things didn`t go to plan on the day we were going to go to Capri, a few phone calls and we were on our way to Naples
Do you have any advice for potential travellers?

The national museum in Naples was closed on Tuesdays this could be a seasonal thing. Be prepared for a little bit of climbing/clambering over rocks on the Walk of Gods.

My first holiday in Italy and this certaintly gave me plenty of reasons to return.  Fantastic guide (thanks Christine), great hotel with friendly and lively staff, and a fantastic group of people to spend a week with.

Wandering through Herculeaneum and actually feeling the history that infuses the city, whilst Pompeii was also amazing Heruleaneum feels more alive!  Whilst no inspirational I will also fondly remember the Walk of the Gods accompanied by the songs from The Sound of Music and The King and I, thanks to Roger and Nickie.

Vesuvius was worth the walk up, because it had rained the day before you could see the steam rising from the crater, a worrying and awsome sight!

What did you think of your group leader?
Christine was fantastic, her organisational skills were most appreciated.  She guided us with great humour and complete un-flappability!  Organising us onto buses and boats was no mean achievement, and though we had a few close calls everyone made it back to the hotel at the end of each day, sometimes damp but always in one piece!
Do you have any advice for potential travellers?

Talk to the locals, everyone is so friendly and really appreciate it when you attempt to speak Italian.  We did Pompeii on our free day, take plenty of water and don't be put off by the crowds, wander off the beaten track and you will find some amazing things.

Don't stop for lunch in Naples, we wandered too much and only had about 30 minutes at the museum and had to rush round to find all the things from Pompeii.  Don't be put off by the traffic, it's noisy and hectic but be brave.

Is there anything else you would like to add?

This is the first Exodus holiday I've been on and am already looking to book the next one.  I was really impressed with the organisation.  The hotel was great, rooms were fairly basic, but spent very little time in them as out and about everyday.  The food was excellent proper home cooked food with most of the vegetables grown in the garden at the back of the hotel, and the staff amazing, a real family run hotel.  Make sure you take home a bottle of the home made Limoncello!

Although graded "Leisurely" and certainly more gentle than many of the Exodus trips I have done, this holiday was action packed with varied and interesting sight-seeing opportunities.  A wonderful introduction to the beautiful Amalfi coast, which left me with a real sense of wanting more!

What was the most inspirational moment of your trip?
Walking along the coastal path on the Walk Of the Gods and looking down on Positano was hugely uplifting, if not inspiring - though it did inspire me to sing all the songs from the Sound of Music!
What did you think of your group leader?
We had a lovely group leader!  She was very helpful and organised, friendly, informative, and diplomatic, and her empathy with the locals added hugely to our apprecation of the Italian culture.
Do you have any advice for potential travellers?

A smattering of Italian is useful for friendly encounters with the locals.

    Come with a huge appetite!

Although graded "Leisurely" don't expect late mornings and lounging about doing nothing - the days are action-packed.  Bring comfortable walking shoes!

Do some of your own research beforehand, as at several villages/towns we are taken there and left to our own devices, although with lots of pointers and suggestions of interesting things to look at.

Is there anything else you would like to add?

In Naples the Archealogical Museum is not included, although it appears to be so from the brochure.

    A great holiday!

This was an excellent week with many and varied activities in beautiful surroundings. The trip included visits to areas of cultural interest as well as a fair amount of walking/hiking.

What was the most inspirational moment of your trip?
Each day brought new and interesting sights and activities - every one was a highlight! However, two days that will forever remain in my memory were the walk up to the top of snow-capped Vesuvius, as well as the day spent in magnificent Capri. The visit to Pompeii on our free day was also very memorable.
What did you think of your group leader?
Our group leader, Barbara, was outstanding. Not only did she know everything there was to know about the area, but she was also a charming and friendly companion who looked after our every need. Even when it was pouring with rain during our 'Walk of the Gods', she kept our spirits up by enthusiastically pointing out wonderful distant views glimpsed through the clouds (as well as promises of shelter and food at the end of the hike!). In spite of the drenching, we had a terrific walk.
Do you have any advice for potential travellers?
During the first half of the week we were there (the last week in March) it was surprisingly wet and cool (though I believe the weather conditions we experienced were exceptional). Be prepared for all eventualities if you're going at this time of the year - we had to contend with rain, gales, hail, sleet, snow and thunderstorms, interspersed with some lovely warm sunny spells. Even though this isn't officially a hiking trip, you need to be reasonably fit and physically able to cope with the longer walks.
Is there anything else you would like to add?
The group really got on well together and we had lots of fun and laughter along the way. Everyone agreed that it had been an exceptionally successful trip in every respect. I would highly recommend it to all prospective visitors to this fascinating and beautiful part of Italy!

As a first timer with Exodus i thought the organisation was great. Good value for money and we were taken to the most wonderful places. Our local guide, Eduardo, was excellent and knew everybody insuring we got to places the usual tourist never gets to>

What was the most inspirational moment of your trip?
Herculaneum was lovely with a great guide who had some involvement in digging the place out in the 1980's. He really bought it to life.
What did you think of your group leader?
As already stated Eduardo was an excellent local guide. Really friendly and helpful.
Do you have any advice for potential travellers?
Wrap up warm - the mountains where the hotel was situated were cold.
Is there anything else you would like to add?
Great hotel - lovely family ran it with italian cookery demos thrown in.

There is one photo that has made me want to visit the area for years and luckily for me I found the spot, the sun was shining and my own photo turned out pretty good too! Many other beautiful and interesting places but wouldn't bother visiting Naples itself again.

What was the most inspirational moment of your trip?

I don't think "inspirational" really fits this holiday. I loved the views and the coastline. Ravello and the Villa Rufolo were my favourite, but I think Capri would have been amazing if the weather had been good.

Pompeii was better than I expected and Mount Vesuvius walk a must but we were again unlucky that the cloud came down whilst we were up the top so didn't get the great view I'd hoped for.

What did you think of your group leader?

He was not quite what I was expecting but he tried hard to get things right for us. It was good that he was a true Italian, and a gentleman. Unfortunately communication wasn't great. We were taken on a quick march through parts of Naples because he had arranged for us to eat in a real locals only restaurant, but we didn't know that until we were almost pushed in the door, and I wasn't happy being more or less forced to eat (and pay for) a meal that I didn't want. He was really pleased to get us into that restaurant as he said we were I think the first British to visit. There was a huge queue outside and it was very popular and I feel rather ungrateful. Also, he gave us no information about Capri which was a shame. We were unable to do the lovely boat trip along the coast for our visit to Capri and so he arranged a "transfer" to Sorrento so that we could get the ferry. The Transfer was in two mini buses driven one by him and the other by one of the brothers who own the hotel. What he didn't tell us was that we would have to pay 25euros each for that until we were waiting to go to dinner on the final evening. Several people were upset about that, including me and at least one didn't pay. I was in the embarassing situation of having to say that I had not got the cash and the machine in town had been out of order all week. I had to put it onto my hotel bill and pay it that way.The evening was almost spoiled by this. There was another Exodus trip staying in the hotel. We were put on different sides of the restaurant and as there were no other guests it was a bit odd. It was especially uncomfortable at the final evening meal when the other group did "thank you" speaches to their leader and presented her with a tip etc. Members of our group had decided that they didn't want to do anything like that. One lady on the trip had lots of attention and help from the Leader for whom he went out of his way for.

Do you have any advice for potential travellers?

If you go early in the season the weather might mean that you miss both the offered boat trips as we did.

The Walk of the Gods is a lovely walk but for people of my height (5ft) very tricky in places as there is a fair bit of rock climbing up and down on the path as well as the flat stuff. It was not an easy walk but worth the effort. A stick would definately be a help but the taller people shouldn't find it a problem. If you want to do the walk but can't face the steps at the end there is a bus that you can get that takes you right into Positano. The best value bus ride I've ever had at 1 euro.

If you are a teacher then take your ID because you can get into Pompeii and the Museum in Naples for half price.

Is there anything else you would like to add?

I thought that the cost of the Museum in Naples was part of the trip but we had to pay for that. The Museum is a bit all over the place and not sure that it is worth bothering with the audio guide. I also was unprepared to pay 10 Euros (each) to the guide that we had at the Herculaneum and again at Pompeii.

It was an enjoyable holiday with a mix of people. The hotel was lovely and welcoming and the food plentiful and good. The town of Bomerano doesn't have a lot going for it but it is a good base for trips in all directions. The only cash machine was out of order for the whole week! We were lucky with the weather and the few bits of rain didn't spoil the trip. It would have been good to have longer on Capri and it was disappointing that we didn't get the 2 boat trips.

Needed twice as much money as I had taken due to the guides, Museum, meal in Naples, and the unexpected transfer costs.

What was the most inspirational moment of your trip?

As a (strictly amateur) geologist the trip to the top of Vesuvius one a particular highlight for me; but Herculaneum comes a very close second.

The whole area is just so lovely!

What did you think of your group leader?

He was great. Knew everything and everybody, and nothing was too much trouble.

Do you have any advice for potential travellers?

If you are fair-skinned like me then it is probably wisest NOT to go in high summer!

If you are the least bit prone to travel sickness then take some medication with you because those twisting mountain roads will set you off!

Is there anything else you would like to add?
    No it was all great.
