Fly to Evenes via Oslo. We then travel by private bus to Andoy Friluftssenter Hotel in the remote Vesteralen Islands. Our journey time is approximately 2.5 hours; however the drive is very scenic, with sweeping mountains, dark fjords and traditional villages all along the route. After our welcome dinner we will venture out from hotel with our guide in search of the Northern Lights. The remoteness of the hotel, overlooking the sea, is a perfect spot for this. Don't forget your cameras and tripods. Our guide will help you achieve the perfect shot.
Alternatively you may choose to stay behind and use the outdoor hot tub, with a warm glass of gluvine in hand, sit back in the warm water watching the Northern Lights dance above you!
After breakfast we head out for a full day wildlife safari. Driving to Stave on the west coast of Andoy. Our guide knows this area perfectly and will be able to search the best options according to the group's interest. As well as moose and seals, we will also see an abundance of different birdlife, including sea eagles, cormorants, eider and merganser ducks, and several species of seagull. Lunch is served outdoors, depending on conditions this may be done on the open fire.
On return to the hotel there will be time to relax, you may want to use the hot tub. After dinner there is another chance to go out with guide to spot the Northern Lights.
Today we head out for a nature hike from the hotel; if there is sufficient snow on the ground we will don snow shoes. These are comfortable and take no practice to walk in. Our aim for the day is view seals and otter in their natural environment. The distance covered will depend on the ability of the group and the weather conditions. Lunch will again be taken outdoors. We will return the hotel by late afternoon. Evening dinner and Northern Lights hunt from the hotel.
Today is a free day. You can either spend some time relaxing at the hotel, or taking a walk along the fjord. Alternatively there will be an optional excursion to Andenes. From here we board the MS Reine for a whale safari. At this time of year the most common whale spotted is the Sperm Whale, but it is also possible to view Killer Whales, Humpbacks, Fin and Pilot Whales too. We will also stop at the Whale Centre to learn more about these facinating creatures. Warm suits and blankets are available, but please note that out on the water at this time of year it is likely to be very cold, so please dress appropriately. We return to the hotel in time for a farwell dinner and a final chance to view the Northern Lights.
