Itinerary

Day 1

Fly to Bucharest. Transfer to our village guesthouse at the foot of the Carpathian Mountains.

Day 2

Daywalk visiting Kalibash villages, learning about the history of the settlements.

Day 3

Walk through the spectacular Prapestile Zarnestilor Canyon; visit shepherd camp to see traditional cheese being made.

Day 4

Horse drawn cart to Birza Valley to learn about the Carpathian Large Carnivore Project; gentle walk into mountains and ancient forest.

Day 5

To Bran (Dracula's) Castle; walk back across the hills and forests to guesthouse.

Day 6

Visit Beaver Reintroduction Programme; after lunch walk along river to see beaver domes; dinner in a local restaurant with folk music.

Day 7

Drive to Brasov to explore the mediaeval marketplace, including the famous 'Black Church'; on to 13th century village of Vulcan to see fortified church and taste local pastries. Walk across the hills to Zarnesti.

Day 8

To Bucharest; fly to London.
