Moscow To St Petersburg

Incredible heritage, extraordinary monuments and Russia's two most fascinating cities

Statue of Catherine the Great, St Petersburg

As the former mediaeval citadel and capital of Communism, Moscow is a beautiful city of gold onion-domed churches that scrape the skyline alongside Stalin's gothic Seven Sisters.

With the Kremlin, Lenin's Mausoleum and St Basil's surrounding the historic Red Square, we enjoy from the first day the fascinating history and architecture this city has to offer. Even Moscow's metro is a work of art, with bronze statues of model citizens lit by ornate chandeliers and there is plenty time to explore to wander around the craft stalls on Arbat Street.

Our next stop is Novgorod, Russia's oldest city and home to ancient buildings such as the magnificent St Sofia's Cathedral and a Kremlin of its own. Named after Russia's most revered poet, Pushkin is an incredible place full of former imperial residences including Catherine the Great's Palace with its stunning Amber Room.

Finally, we reach St Petersburg, where the Hermitage, Peter and Paul Fortress and the River Neva combine to evoke a past of unparalleled glory. The fortress, museums, palaces and parks provide an abundance of historic and cultural sites to visit.

This itinerary is excellent value for money as it includes many entrances to Russia's most incredible monuments and our departures operate in both summer and winter seasons!

What makes this trip responsible?

Our local partners support various local associations including Nochlezhka NGO, who provide a night bus service to offer mobile care for the homeless people of St Petersburg. They provide tea, coffee, food, blankets, health care, warm clothing and links to social services. Should you wish to bring any old clothes to be distributed, your group leader will ensure they are donated to the charity once you reach St Petersburg. The optional cycling tour is a highlight of the trip for many, as Pavlovsk Park does not benefit from the same tourism as other major sites so your participation will surely boost knowledge of the park amongst authorities as well as promote self-sustainability.
