Reality Check

Although this is a cultural trip some days can be long and tiring, such as the two days in Petra. These are both long days. To walk up to the sacrificial high places, you should have a reasonable level of fitness.

Your leader will be able to offer you further advice about the walk. Although it's a tiring day it is well worth the effort.

Please also take the heat into consideration; although trips are planned outside of the summer heat, days in the desert can be very hot.

Normal group size and age

Normally 4 to 16, plus local leader. Minimum age 16.

Misc

Archaeology on the Desert Loop
Most visitors to Jordan will head down the Kings Highway to Petra. However, Jordan has an abundance of treasures and The Desert Loop to the east of Amman includes a number of what have been described as forts but in fact were hunting lodges and caravanserai. Qasr Amra, literally 'Little Palace', was built as a bath house or hamman and its existence adds to the theory that these 'Desert Castles' were built mainly for leisure and not as forts. The auditorium chamber, used for feasting, meetings and cultural events, leads through an antechamber to the baths. The walls of the antechamber are exquisitely decorated with hunting and wildlife scenes. Qasr Amra had an elaborate bathing complex and the caldarium's domed ceiling depicts the constellations of the northern hemisphere and signs of the Zodiac. Beyond is Amra Al Azraq: this basalt building was used by Lawrence during the 1917 Arab revolution against the Turks. So if you want to explore Jordan beyond Petra Exodus can show you more.

Adult Group Holidays The vast majority of Exodus adventures are adult group holidays. Groups are always small in size. We strongly believe that this adherence to small groups means a better experience for all; more time with your guide, less waiting around and a reduced impact on the communities and environments visited.
Each group is generally made up of like-minded travellers - with singles, couples and friends all joining in together. All these trips are suitable for single travellers, but if you prefer to travel with clients booking individually, please see our Solo Departures page.

Leisurely Designed for people who are in good health, enjoy the outdoors and want a relaxing trip packed with interest.

Special Interest Special Interest: For those who have a passion for archaeology, food, flowers, languages or yoga. Solar eclipse and Northern Lights (Aurora Borealis) departures and specialist conservation holidays are also included.

Culture Culture: Let Exodus show you a different side to many of the world's greatest cultural attractions.
