We could not believe how much we had seen in so short a time, and we appreciated the friendliness of the people we met. We also learned a great deal from Yousef and thought he was an excellent guide.
What was the most inspirational moment of your trip?
Just as the guide book said: breathtaking natural beauty and ancient sites. Anthony and I particularly enjoyed walking around Petra and the amazing ruins at Jerash and Umm Qais, as well as the desert wilderness at Wadi Rum.
What did you think of your group leader?
Yousef has excellent English and was keen to develop his linguistic skills further. He pointed out features of interest on the way, at every site we had a full explanation of what we were seeing, and all questions were answered. If one approached him with a further question, this often led to a long and interesting conversation about the Jordanian or Bedouin way of life.
Is there anything else you would like to add?
· In previous Trip Notes there have been estimates of, for example, typical prices of tea, coffee, soft drinks and standard meals, and these would have been helpful.
· We found that it is not compulsory to ride horses to the Siq at Petra, although the cost is automatically included in the price of the ticket: the Trip Notes might mention this.
· Trip Notes might also point out that it is often possible to have only the lighter salad option (mezze) for a lower price rather than the full meal on offer. We thought the food was delicious and good value.

What was the most inspirational moment of your trip?
For me the trip was all highs, However there are a few places that stood out for me. Visiting Mt Nebo and looking over the Promised Land was very inspiring. We also requested a short detaour to the Baptism site and I found that this effected me. I am a Christian and going to that place, especially as it was an extra to the holiday became vry personal. I still look back and thinking about that day, will stop stop me and put me into thought.
Two days in Petra was still not enough and though the treasury is just amazing to see as you walk out of the Siq, the experience of the whole valley is mind blowing. Man working with Natures beauty, the colours weaving through the valley enhancing the carvings.
Jordan as a whole is an inspirational place, considering how the country came to be and how their relationship with all their neighbours, does show that peace can happen and tolerance is possible.
He was very knowledgable and passionate about his country. He like us to understand what we were looking at , how it came to be and what the future may hold. He also gave us the chance to say what we knew or had found out and was very incouraging on this point.
Do you have any advice for potential travellers?
I had no worries as a Western Woman in an Islamic Country, everybody was friendly and helpful. As a diabetic controlled by diet. I had no problems with choice of food, though kept of the Sweets and they do like their sweets. I found that many places could offer Mint tea without sugar and it was very refreshing.

The only down side for me was not the country or where we went but the attitude of some of the travellers in wanting British food and not accepting the fact that their food is different, I personally was very happy with it, as it meant that I could eat and not miss out. When you read the guide books and look at the food that is what you will get for the holiday, it is healthy but may get boring after a week, but you are not there for ever and once back not even M&S can capture what the real stuff was like.
