Frequently Asked Questions
About Your Trip
What is the food like in Oman?
Delicious! While camping the food normally consists of barbequed chicken/fish or a vegetarian option Falafels, hummous and dates/nuts are part of the diet and vegetarians are well catered for, although meat is a staple part of the Oman diet. The seafood is excellent along the coast. Indian cuisine is especially popular throughout the country but in Muscat all types of food are available. Most restaurants in Oman close 1pm - 4:30 pm so lunch will usually be taken early or we will take a picnic!

Visas are required by all non-Arab nationalities. Most nationalities can obtain a visa on arrival at Seeb International Airport (Muscat) for 6 Rials (OMR) which is about US$16 or £10. As this information may change we advise you to check with the Embassy before travel. Should you decide to obtain a visa before departure, the cost of this is currently £12. You will need your passport, one visa form and a guarantee letter which Exodus will provide on request.

What is the best way to take money to Oman?
Bring you money in either Sterling, cash is fine. Money can be changed at the airport or in larger hotels. The national currency of Oman is the Omani Rials (OMR), with an exchange rate of 0.6 to the UK£ and 0.38 to the US$.
ATMs are available in most towns but you shouldn't rely on them for all your money, just in case there are any problems.

Oman Specific Questions
Please note that the holy month of Ramadan will take place from the 20th of July to the 18th of August 2012 (dates can shift slightly). This is a time when followers of Islam do not eat or drink between sunrise and sunset. This can sometimes affect the opening hours of certain tourist sites. However we will ensure that that the itinerary is affected as little as possible if you travel during this period. Food and drink is available to tourists during the day.

What kind of clothing is best in a Muslim country?
You are visiting a predominantly Muslim country, therefore you should dress modestly at all times when visiting cultural sites, and there may also be times when you are asked to 'cover up'. During your trip the tour leader will always advise you on appropriate dress for each day's activities.
If you are asked to 'cover up', you'll need to cover your shoulders, arms and legs. We recommend packing lightweight trousers or a long skirt, and a long sleeved shirt. Women may also be required to cover their hair with a scarf if entering a mosque or religious quarters.
