Reality Check

Although this is a cultural trip some days, such as the time spent in Petra, can be long and tiring.

To walk up to the High Place of Sacrifice on days 4 or 5 you should have a reasonable level of fitness. Your leader will be able to offer you further advice about the walk.

Whilst camping in Wadi Rum please be aware that although the campsite does have plumbed toilets and running water there are no showers and facilities are basic.

Ramadan The holy month of Ramadan runs from 20th July - 18th August in 2012. During this time the opening hours to sites and museums may be affected by an hour or two. The leader will be aware of this and adapt your day to accommodate this. Purchasing snacks and meals during the day may also be affected slightly. It does need to be recognised that the energy levels of our local staff may be a bit lower during this period. Having said this, Ramadan is a unique time to visit a Muslim country - each evening the streets empty for an hour while everyone breaks their fast, and there's a feeling of festivity in the air every night.

Normal group size and age

Normally 1 to 20, plus leader and appropriate local guides. Minimum age 16.

Misc

Wadi Rum Desert
Our itinerary includes an exciting evening in the dramatic Wadi Rum desert. Here we experience Bedouin hospitality at is best. After enjoying a glass of refreshing mint tea, we set off on a 4WD adventure, travelling between the dramatic sandstone and granite rocks ploughing through the russet coloured sand dunes. Our night is spent in a traditional Bedouin tent, but for those who prefer, there is the option of sleeping under the stars. A truly unique experience.

During high season, which is March/April and September/October, accommodation in Petra is in demand. If our preferred hotels are unavailable we may have to use a more basic hotel. In very rare instances we may need to amend the order of the itinerary but we will ensure that all the elements of the itinerary are still included and site visits are for the same duration.

Adult Group Holidays The vast majority of Exodus adventures are adult group holidays. Groups are always small in size. We strongly believe that this adherence to small groups means a better experience for all; more time with your guide, less waiting around and a reduced impact on the communities and environments visited.
Each group is generally made up of like-minded travellers - with singles, couples and friends all joining in together. All these trips are suitable for single travellers, but if you prefer to travel with clients booking individually, please see our Solo Departures page.

Leisurely / Moderate In order to provide a more accurate grading system, where a trip falls between two grades we use an intermediate or split grade, for example Leisurely/Moderate. Occasionally, there are optional activities available en route, in this case the optional grade is indicated in brackets, for example Grade Challenging (climb Tough+). Clearly, conditions may differ from region-to-region or month-to-month and as such the information given on these pages is designed to act as a guide only. In all cases you should refer to the respective holiday's Trip Notes for further details.

Culture Culture: Let Exodus show you a different side to many of the world's greatest cultural attractions.

Solo Departures Available For those clients who wish to travel with a group of other solo/single travellers, on certain trips we have set aside departure dates that are specifically recommended for clients booking individually. Solo departures are aimed at taking away that concern that you may be the only solo traveller when you arrive overseas. Look out for the solo departures (marked with a grey icon's') by checking the notes in the dates and prices table.
However, please note that we inform any couples, or friends travelling together, who enquire about these dates that the trip is recommended for solos, but we do not refuse bookings from non-solo travellers, and we are therefore not able to guarantee that a solo departure will be exclusively made up of solo travellers.
