The pre-holiday documentation and bookings were not of excellent quality, but the holiday itself was fantastic. The Dead Sea, Wadi Rum and Petra were excellent. Our guide gave us the right amount of time in each.

What was the most inspirational moment of your trip?
The most insprirational part was the two and a half days in Petra. The skill and industry of the people who built it at around 100 B.C. was mind blowing.
What did you think of your group leader?
Our tour leader was excellent. He had the knowledge to describe each and every site at the right level f detail for me, but had a wealth of background knowledge, so he could answer virtually all questions. He knew how much free time to give the group at each site. He also had humour. When it was a fellow traveller's birthday, he stopped the coach at a local garage and bought cakes and squash for us all to celebrate it.
Do you have any advice for potential travellers?
We spent less than £25 per person per day on average. Our tour guide directed us to good quality local supplers of cooked and fresh food if we needed to buy lunches.
Is there anything else you would like to add?
Jordanian people are friendly and humourous, often cracking jokes with tourists, without giving hassle.

What was the most inspirational moment of your trip?
I guess Petra, but frankly it was all good . . . Jarash, Amman, Madaba, Al-Karak, The Dead Sea, Aqaba, Wadi Rum.  -  and our Group
What did you think of your group leader?
As with all the Exodus leaders we've encountered: extremely knowledgeable, cultured, sincere, thoughtful and very obliging.  How do you find such wonderful people?
Do you have any advice for potential travellers?
It'll be better than you imagine.  Enjoy it!
Is there anything else you would like to add?
On returning home I sent our Group Leader a pair of 'Dude' shoes size 42, colour desert sand.  (He'd admired mine and they're not available in Jordan).  If you're going, treat him to another pair!  Actually, buy some for yourself; they're perfect for this trip.  (Lightweight and breathable; much better than smelly trainers or hot walking boots).

Jordan is an interesting and diverse destination.  Good for history buffs, amateur outdoorists and those keen on mixing with the local people (who are particularly friendly).

What was the most inspirational moment of your trip?

    1) Petra is extremely beautiful - especially if you make the effort to get there early (7am) to avoid the tour-bus crowds.  There are also some nice off-beat trails - try the "dark tunnel" hike...

    2) We enjoyed spending an afternoon wandering about in Amman.

    3) Sleeping rough in Wadi Rum was a highlight.

    4) Diving the Cedar Pride shipwreck at Aqaba was pretty good - nice diversity of life, good vis and some cool swim throughs.

What did you think of your group leader?
The group leader was knowledgable & spoke good English.  He knew lots of tricks and the organisation was close to faultless.
Do you have any advice for potential travellers?

Jordan is a good destination for a 1 week escape from the UK.  To get the most from it requires a willingness to get up early and get out and about - although the itinerary is not physically demanding (unless you want it to be).  The hotels are basic but fine and the food is generally of a high standard.

It is also worth investigating buying the land only variant of the tour as we saved about £300 per person flying with BMI rather than Royal Jordanian (the package carrier).  Not sure BA will preserve such a generous discount package though..?

Is there anything else you would like to add?
Whilst it isn't advertised it is also possible to do a hot air balloon trip at Wadi Rum.  At £130 per person it's cheap and the views on a clear morning are beautiful.

What was the most inspirational moment of your trip?

Petra exceeded my expectations. I was so pleased that we were able to spend two full days there to marvel at the history and explore the challenging landscape. The site is much bigger than I had realised and you cetainly need sturdy footwear and a lot of energy to get the most from it, but there were suprises round every corner and views to die for!

The night in the desert will also stay with me, sleeping out under the stars next to the firepit after a truly amazing meal. Don't forget to take a torch!

What did you think of your group leader?
Khaled was very well-informed about all aspects of his country and answered all our questions with patience and humour. His ability to organise us all without it becoming overbearing, meant that everything ran smoothly and we learned so much.
Do you have any advice for potential travellers?

You will be in the sun all day at Petra, so don't forget to wear something very light, possibly with sleeves to protect you. Some necks got very burnt but those who had bought the light white scarves kept cooler and were protected. Whatever you wear, it will be a deep shade of Petra-pink by the end of the day, including your shoes!

There seemed to be plenty of sleeping bags and blankets available to borrow at the desert camp, so perhaps a sleeping bag liner would be sufficient to take and cut down on that luggage.

For the female travellers, don't take too many changes of clothing for the evening - clean pair of jeans and three or four prettier tops will be plenty. You might need a wrap from time to time but there are plenty of these to buy everywhere.

Is there anything else you would like to add?

Jordan is situated in a troubled part of the world but we felt safe at all times. Our tourist policeman who had to travel with us at all times was funny and friendly and very useful when getting us through the heavier traffic and helping us over rougher terrain.

I will carry the images of the arid landscape with me for a very long time - the rock formations, the desert, the camels, the enormous views and the closeness to all those biblical places we learned about in our childhood.

We had a week in Jordan at the end of April with Khaled as our guide, he was excellent, amusing, informative and gave us an insight into 'real' life in Jordan. The holiday did "exactly as it said on the tin" and was wonderful. Throughout the week we were given choices about where and when to eat and how long we'd like to spend as free time, everything went well and there were no hold ups or disasters.

What was the most inspirational moment of your trip?

Seeing the differences in the countryside travelling the length of the country and hearing about how people live.

    Petra of course.

Snorkelling alongside the coral reef in Aquaba from a boat.

Stopping for a tea break alongside 'the grand canyon' in the rift valley.

    The desert at Wadi Rum.

What did you think of your group leader?
Khaled was wonderful - he was everything anyone would want in a guide without being too bossy or in your face. He kept us all happy and amused, stopped at interesting and novel places maybe not on ALL tourist routes.
Do you have any advice for potential travellers?
    Do it !
Is there anything else you would like to add?
We were impressed by Exodus and have already booked our next holiday with them. From the first they were full of advice and welcomed questions, they looked after us amazingly well.

A fascinating trip, packed with plenty of history and culture, blended well with some beautiful scenery and a healthy dose of exercise and relaxation. Being able to see ancient settlements, Roman ruins and crusader forts alongside mountains, vast desert and coral reefs in such a short time ensures there's something for everyone and plenty of surprises.

What was the most inspirational moment of your trip?

Seeing the Treasury at Petra (even for the tenth time), rounding the corner to the Monastery at Petra after the hike up, and watching the sun set and stars emerge round the camp fire in the awe-inspiring Wadi Rum.

What did you think of your group leader?
Khaled was fantastic - his knowledge of the history and cultures of Jordan seemed endless and his enthusiasm to share his country was infectious.
Do you have any advice for potential travellers?
I was worried about how my relatively low fitness levels would impact my ability to enjoy Petra, but the more strenuous walks/hikes (hundreds of steps or steep uneven paths) aren't too bad and are either taken at the pace most suitable for the group or are optional with plenty of time to do them at your own pace (or not at all if you choose). Hotter temperatures could make the walks more challenging (it was mid-high 20's Celsius when I went), but many are sheltered by canyon walls in parts at least. In short, as long as you are reasonably active, there's no need to worry or go on a big fitness drive before going on this trip.
Is there anything else you would like to add?
If you are interested in this region or after a holiday experience that goes beyond your expectation, don't hesitate, you won't regret it.

This was a well balanced holiday, with sufficient time to relax amidst enjoying almost all of the major sites of Jordan.  I would describe Jordan as a welcoming and friendly country, with a fantastic climate and wealth of fascinating history: social, political and archaeological.

What was the most inspirational moment of your trip?
I think that seeing Petra unfold before me at dawn, before the throng of tourists arrived, was probably the most breathtaking moment, but experiencing some of the Holy Lands was similarly inspiring for me, and Wadi Rum was an experience not to be missed.
What did you think of your group leader?
Our group leader was full of energy and worked hard to ensure we had a thoroughly enjoyable trip.
Do you have any advice for potential travellers?
Go to Petra early in the morning on one of the days you stay there, and steer clear of the salad bar.  If you can fit it into your schedule, take an excursion to the baptism site on the River Jordan.
