This trip can either be done as a camping safari or a lodge based safari. Both visit the same wildlife areas and have the same itinerary, but the camping option is probably for those who want a more wild and total experience of Africa, as for 3 nights in the Serengeti and Ngorongoro regions we camp within the parks on private campsites. We will be the only group there, and being within the park means we will hear the sounds of the animals and maybe even be visited at camp by zebra, antelopes, bush pigs or buffaloes! The lodge based option allows one to see the same wildlife during the day but with the accommodation being permanent and situated outside the park it offers more comfort with proper beds and ensuite bathrooms.
On Safari we travel in 4WD landcruisers or landrovers. There is a roof hatch, which greatly enhances game viewing. There will be some long drives but as most of these will be in parks and conservation areas they will allow for constant animal spotting.
Normal group size and age
Normally 4 to 14, plus local leader. Minimum age 16.
It is possible to extend your trip by visiting Zanzibar. See trip notes and/or talk to our sales team for further information.
The vast majority of Exodus adventures are adult group holidays. Groups are always small in size. We strongly believe that this adherence to small groups means a better experience for all; more time with your guide, less waiting around and a reduced impact on the communities and environments visited.
Each group is generally made up of like-minded travellers - with singles, couples and friends all joining in together. All these trips are suitable for single travellers, but if you prefer to travel with clients booking individually, please see our Solo Departures page.
In order to provide a more accurate grading system, where a trip falls between two grades we use an intermediate or split grade, for example Leisurely/Moderate. Occasionally, there are optional activities available en route, in this case the optional grade is indicated in brackets, for example Grade Challenging (climb Tough+). Clearly, conditions may differ from region-to-region or month-to-month and as such the information given on these pages is designed to act as a guide only. In all cases you should refer to the respective holiday's Trip Notes for further details.
Special Interest: For those who have a passion for archaeology, food, flowers, languages or yoga. Solar eclipse and Northern Lights (Aurora Borealis) departures and specialist conservation holidays are also included.
Wildlife: Trips may be wholly wildlife focused, or contain an element of wildlife viewing within a less specific itinerary.
Wilderness: Visit the deserts, jungles, plateaux, tundra and mountains of all seven continents, including Antarctica.
Certain departures of this trip are marked in our brochures and online as Premium Departures labelled with against the specific date. On these departures some elements of the trip have been changed to provide more comfort - this will generally mean we have raised the standard of hotels or switched from camping to comfortable lodges, but it may also include other changes, for example, where a long train journey has been replaced by an internal flight. Specific details about what elements of the trip have been changed can be found in the relevant sections of the Trip Notes.
