Frequently Asked Questions

About Your Trip

Can I charge equipment along the way?

Most of the campsites provide a power point where you can charge your camera batteries. The power point is normally in a communal area like the kitchen or bar. Most of the vehicles are fitted with an inverter to allow you to charge your batteries while on the move also, but obviously space is limited so you should not rely on this being available.

How should I take my money for Namibia?

Sterling cash is best, and maybe a card as a back up. The local currency is the Namibian Dollar, although South African rand is widely accepted as well. ATMs are available in most towns and can be used to top up, although you shouldn't rely on them for all your cash.

How much should I budget for optional excursions in southern Africa?

There are lots of extra things to see and do during the trip and the best way to calculate amounts is to check in the detailed trip notes, where they give as close an estimate as possible to what you may need along the way. Obviously some people will want to do more than others and will have to budget accordingly.

How big are the tents and do we need mozzie nets?

They are large dome 2 man tents. You should be able to stand up in them and the dimensions are approximately 2.4 x 2.4 x 1.8 meter. All the tents have mesh windows and doors so mosquito nets are not needed. Obviously you should keep your tent closed when not in it, to prevent bugs flying in!

Do I need to take a sleeping mat?

No, it is not necessary to take one for this trip. Any nights camping a thick foam mattress will be provided.

What weather should I expect in Namibia?

Namibia is in the Southern Hemisphere, therefore essentially has the opposite weather to the UK. Our summer months of June, July and August, whilst clear and warm during the day, can drop down to single figures and even freezing at night. Between September and May it is considerably warmer with the time between October and March being the hottest, getting up to the high 30s ºC. However it is always a dry heat and the temperature does drop at night. The wet season is between November and February, but this is not a bad time to go as the desert blooms after rainfall and it never rains for very long!
