What was the most inspirational moment of your trip?
Our first glimpse of lions.  12 in the pride.      A fight to the death of 2 rhinos defending a water hole.
What did you think of your group leader?
Supurb he knew everything we wanted to know and he was so enthuesiastic about Namibia.
Do you have any advice for potential travellers?
Be prepared for a bumpy ride on some of the mud roads.   Take some  warm clothing for early morning and at night.  There is not alot of spare time so send postcards when you get home.   You can freely drink the water from the taps no one was ill because of it.
Is there anything else you would like to add?
Namibia is quite a special place unlike anywhere I have been.   Go before it gets too popular.

Superb trip in a wonderful country!

What was the most inspirational moment of your trip?

Dune 45 at dawn - awesome!

The scenery throughout but especially the mountains around Brandberg.

11 Rhino including 2 babies at an Etosha, Okaukuejo waterhole!

What did you think of your group leader?

Our wonderful guide Ronnie was such a good ambassador for his country showing a genuine love of all the spectacular scenery, the wildlife and his fellow Namibians - he made the trip for us. he managed to get us all up and moving so that we were the first vehicle at Dune 45 and therefore the first group at the top - an amazing experience!

He dealt with a day where unfortunately the vehicle sump was smashed by a large stone superbly! Calm, measured and very efficient.

Do you have any advice for potential travellers?

Do take a lot of warm clothes - we were all surprised by how cold it was up to and including the area around Swakopmund. We hardly saw any mosquitos - so good news there! Be aware that the driving day from Namib-Naukluft Park to Swakopmund is a very long day and the last few hours are along desert roads with no dunes or anything much to look at - a book or an ipod would be a good plan!

Don't expect to loose weight - the food is truly brilliant! Jonas and his assistant Joseph were great cooks, the food was great, tasty, varied and the cooking methods were very innovative. Crispy top to cottage pie was made by putting tin foil on top of the mash and hot coals on top of the foil - excellent!

Is there anything else you would like to add?
This was our first trip with Exodus - it won't be our last and we will happily recommend them to anyone!

It was everything I'd hoped for - stunning scenery, lots of wildlife and great company !

What was the most inspirational moment of your trip?

Being the first group that day to set foot on the pristine sands of Dune 45, then watching the dawn break over the desert

Seeing a rhino in the wild for the first time

Seeing 30 elephants around a small waterhole - then, next day,  seeing 50 elephants around a small waterhole ! They just kept coming !

What did you think of your group leader?

Ronney was excellent - very knowledgeable about the country, the sights and the wildlife, and always friendly and helpful, even after a very hard day driving. When things went wrong (we had to switch trucks, because a huge stone holed the sump in the original vehicle) he worked really hard to sort things out and to minimise our discomfort and inconvenience.

Jonas and Joseph produced some amazing meals, especially considering the available facilities. My personal favourite was probably the fish and chips ! When we had the problems with the truck, they pitched camp in the dark and still came up with a good meal, even though they'd had little opportunity for shopping and must all have ben very tired.

The whole team were great - they worked together well, and really cared that we had a good time. They had a great rapport with each other and with the group. They seemed to know exactly the right moment to come up with a surprise, or a special treat.

Do you have any advice for potential travellers?

Be prepared for cold nights and early mornings in the south, although by the time we got to Etosha, it was much warmer - and mostly it was hot during the day. In mid September, a 2-3 season sleeping bag plus liner was a good combination.

Apart from the odd hiccup, I think we all managed to use ATMs and credit cards when we needed them.

You get a great view of the desert/Skeleton Coast from the air, and a real feel for its scale, but many of the brochures offer 2.5 hour flights or longer, which are pretty expensive. We did manage to find a 1.5 hour flight, which was long enough, and more reasonably priced.

The dolphin trip from Swarkopmund is great fun !

If you end up on the flight via Frankfurt, book your luggage right through. The luggage won't be transferred to the plane until you check in for the next leg of the flight, which you can do either by going out through immigration, and using the normal check-in desks, or by checking in at the gate. Former option is definitely recommended for  the outward journey, as by the time the gate opens, all the good seats will have gone ! If there is a transit desk, we never found it. When buying water, duty frees etc, make sure you understand whether you will need to go through any more security gates.

Is there anything else you would like to add?

Go for it ! - and don't be afraid to camp, this is very much camping for softies, with all the work done for you -  soft mattresses, decent (if sometimes unusual !) showers and loos and good food !

Part of the charm of this holiday is the sheer scale of the desert and feeling of remoteness. If you are likely to spend your entire holiday fretting over the lack of a constant mobile phone signal, or worrying that you will probably only get one chance to check emails (in Swarkop), this one isn't for you.

It was what I expected and more. I was prepared to see some amazing scenery but the vastness of Namibia and the beauty and peace that came with it , made the holiday for me.

What was the most inspirational moment of your trip?

Touching a cheetah and being simultaneously excited and terrified.

The never ending stunning beauty of Etosha and the fact that every single time we went out on a drive, we saw something great and new.

The really easy way our group got on.

The food!! JJ was an awesome cook, highly recommended.

Even the days that were 'full on' driving, felt fine because there was so much to see.

Being on tenterhooks, trying to track down a 3 leopards we knew we around after making a kill, and although it wasnt for long, when we did spot them, it was so worth it.

What did you think of your group leader?
Sam our guide was in control and super organised without being aggressive, always friendly and I never felt let down by any of the decisions he/we made. He made the effort to talk to everyone and check everyone was ok and happy without being obvious.
Do you have any advice for potential travellers?

I took 3 books , but didnt read at all apart from at the airport-there was always more fun stuff to do and scenery to look at, but I would advise having an MP3 for the longer driving days.

You can never have too many batteries, memory for your cameras.

Thermals are def needed, if only for 1 or 2 nights when it gets really cold.

You really dont need many/good clothes-you can rinse out stuff along the way and then get them laundered at Swakopmund. The dust is inescapable!

Take a diary/notebook, so much happens every day its hard to keep track and you'll never remember when you get home.

The checklist is def needed but , you do stop at supermarkets quite oftenday so its not the end of the world as long as you have got the essentials: torch, trainers, sleeping bag, thermals, sunscreen and camera.

Is there anything else you would like to add?

Just do it! Namibia is stunning and still feels relatively untouched. You can drive for hours and not see anyone. The wildlife is amazing and prolific.

We had the trip of a lifetime to one of the most beautiful countries on earth. Every day brought us memories that will last all our lives.

What was the most inspirational moment of your trip?
We loved hiking up to the top of Dune 45 in the dawn and coming back to earth the fast way, the dolphin cruise where seals jumped aboard the boat, the seal colony at Cape Cross, the ancient rock art at Twyvelfontein, and early morning game drives in Etosha where we appeared to be the only vehicle out- it was just us and the animals. But every day was stunning. There is not a flat day on this trip.
What did you think of your group leader?
Samora was a fantastic leader- friendly and knowledgeable, not just about the wildlife but everything we saw. He spent long days driving us about and still retained his enthusiasm, patience and good humour. Jonas and Tuhafeni- ace cooks on the braai, worked their fingers to the bone to make us comfortable and still had time for a laugh.  They were all so proud of their country and its friendly people. We were privileged.
Do you have any advice for potential travellers?

Clothes: take more long/three quarter/zip off trousers and fewer shorts, likewise more long sleeved shirts and fewer t-shirts, for evening mozzie protection. Don't wear shorts on an early morning game drive (brr.) You'll need your fleece and a hat.

Light things like vests and underwear dried o.k. if you washed them quickly as soon as you arrived in the evening while the sun was still up, as did towels after use.

Namibian supermarkets sell effective mozzie protection and spray for your tent but take Deet with you and use it.

A sheet sleeping bag is useful in the desert as temperatures may not fall as far as you expect (in April, anyway.)

Our solar ipod charger was rubbish but we used a cigar-lighter one in the truck and it worked well. There are electric points by the tents at some, but not all, of the campsites.

O2 have no agreement with any Namibian mobile network even if you have arranged for roaming to be turned on.

Please do not rely on Namibian ATMs to provide you with all your holiday money. Even though we had all rung up our card providers beforehand,  many of us found our (Maestro, especially) debit cards would only give 50-100 dollars per day (or nothing at all sometimes,) and our Mastercards would not work where there was no chip and pin facility. My own credit card was stopped completely when I tried to use it to obtain cash from an ATM, my Maestro card having only doled out 50 dollars. (Had a 'suspected card fraud' letter waiting for me when I got home.)

Do not expect to be able to pay for experiences/activities in Swakopmund by card, and check and double check the price just before you participate.

Malarone is the anti-malarial medication you need. You will have to get it on private prescription, but do not be tempted to make do with paludrine as it is ineffective.

Is there anything else you would like to add?

We were lucky to have a good mix of ages on our tour, from 16 to us codgers in our 50's. We were worried that we would be in a middle-aged minority of two, but we weren't, and you shouldn't be concerned about this- everybody just wanted to be there and enjoyed it thoroughly. We took our 3 daughters whose ages ranged from 16 to 28 and they got on really well with everyone.

Namibian campsites are very well appointed and are in spectacular surroundings with bars, swimming pools and hot showers and an outside braai/boma area for sitting out. Exodus do camping the civilised way and you do not have to participate in putting your tent up, etc. This was such a blessing with the early starts needed. I watched people with other tour companies struggling to get their tents down at 4.30 a.m. in the pitch dark, and wearily putting their tents up in the evenings while we were just going off for a swim or a drink before dinner. (watched but did not offer to help!!)

If I can enjoy camping then anybody can, and you also get a very comfortable 2-day break in the lovely Swakop Lodge which has a wonderful restaurant and clean, well-appointed rooms.

This was a fantastic trip with a great leader.  This is truly one of my best holidays and I have memories that will last a lifetime!

What was the most inspirational moment of your trip?
There were so many, but I think it has to be the day we climbed the sand dune.  The very early start and the long climb to the top of dune 45 was worth it for the views. Watching sun rise over the desert was amazing.  Running down the dune was so much fun - haven't felt so giddy with happiness in such a long time!
What did you think of your group leader?
Sam was fantastic! Its great that the tour leaders Exodus use are locals.  He was so passionate about his country and was s determined to ensure we saw everything.  The assistants were also lovely.  All so eager to help us and talk to us.  The food was fabulous too - Kudu cottage pie - yum!
Do you have any advice for potential travellers?

Take warm clothes - it is cold in the mornings and in the evenings.  Ipod is also a good thing to have for the long drives.  Don't forget binoculars!  They do advise to wait to buy your souvenirs, but you should buy them when you see them as you never find what you really want again - I missed a few opportunities for art work that I never got again and I really regret.

Is there anything else you would like to add?

It was a fantastic trip!  Namibia is a great country with lovely people and I would recommend it to anyone. What are you waiting for?  Go!!!!

An excellent trip.  The staff were brilliant, the scenery spectacular, the wildlife all I wanted it to be. To top it off, one of the best groups I have travelled with!

What was the most inspirational moment of your trip?
Arriving at a waterhole in Etosha one evening where a herd of elephants were drinking and bathing. The floodlight scene with dust in the air and absolute silence was magical. The camera could not capture the beauty but I felt privileged to witness such a scene.
What did you think of your group leader?
Sam was excellent throughout. Very knowledgeable, witty and he led us well so that we saw everything we needed to. It was good that he was namibian as he could share his cultur with us. I must also mention joseph who was a brilliant cook and, once he came out of his shell, a great guy. New recruit Shaun will also be a valuable addition to the company, again he was enthusiastic, helpful, knowledgable and an excellent travel companion.
Do you have any advice for potential travellers?
There are opportunities to recharge batteries throughout, as long as you have a fully charged spare (and a South African adapter) you should be OK. I travelled in August and we never saw a cloud, but it does get chilly at night as a result. Don't be put off by the camping, everything is done for you and the food is excellent.
Is there anything else you would like to add?
Don't miss the trip - although maybe miss the petrified forest!
