This holiday was made by being with a really great bunch of people and having a superb tour guide in Murray Lewis. He was good humoured, efficient and very knowledgable about all things Namibian and to do with wildlife. With his background he ought to be; and he was.

What was the most inspirational moment of your trip?
    All of it.
What did you think of your group leader?
See above. If I went again I would insist on a fortnight that Murray was leading.
Do you have any advice for potential travellers?

You need not take too much luggage, anything you wash will dry quickly. Take washing liquid or powder.

Is there anything else you would like to add?
    No.

What was the most inspirational moment of your trip?

The desert landscapes - miles and miles of nothing and nobody. The incredible red dunes (and climbing Dune 45 - I never thought I'd make it at my age; but I did).

What did you think of your group leader?
Excellent, both of them. Benni's organisation and inter-personal skills were great. Joseph's easy rapport was fun and his cooking was wonderful -especially his 'local' dishes. And they both put themselves out to help, and made it a holiday to remember.
Do you have any advice for potential travellers?
    Don't pack so much!
Is there anything else you would like to add?

Swakopmund accommodation was not up to the standard of the rest. Adequate but cramped and no 'atmosphere'.

I much appreciated the picnic breakfasts and lunches, and also the campfire dinners.

The wildlife does not really compare with Kenya and Tanzania, but was good all the same. Pity no cheetahs or leopards, but that's the luck of the game (no pun intended).

What was the most inspirational moment of your trip?

seeing the sand dunes at seriem in the early morning was beautiful, sandboarding down some in Swakopmund was less peaceful - more adrenalin rush.

Etosha was amazing, you never know what is going to happen at a waterhole, and seeing a herd of elephant running into the water and splashing around like school kids was just an absolute highlight.

Obi was a fantastic, knew the answer to any question about flora, fauna, geology or history of namibia ( though you sometimes had to watch whether he was wearing his hat , if not he could be pulling you leg)

Go! it's a great place, and clean and organised to boot. don't forget a southafrican adaptor for electricity and bring a fleece, even during the hot part of the year.

What did you think of your group leader?
Obi was very good, maybe too good because he did EVERYTHING. For example after a long drive it would be Obi who prepared the picnic lunch or cooked the evening meal, with Simon, his assistant in the background. Even during the time in Etosha, Obi would take us on the game drive, but then it was him who had to start food preparations when we returned to camp, it seemed that Simon could only do certain camp tasks. On previous safaris with other companies, it would be normal to return to camp after a game drive to a waiting meal, either breakfast or dinner, not so with Obi. This is an area that could definitely be improved upon. As a person he was very friendly and had a good sense of humour, and had a broad knowledge of the flora and fauna of Namibia. He was very easy going and on some occasions let the group decide on the time for wake up call.
Do you have any advice for potential travellers?

Very easy going, laid back trip. Excellent South African wines at low, low prices. Wide range of adrenaline activities at Swakopmund

Is there anything else you would like to add?
The truck used for this trip was not ideal, no forward vision unless you were in the middle front seat and were prepared to crouch down to see through the windscreen. Seats were OK on short journeys, but because the backs were very low they were not suited to long journeys, and offered little support, one group member actually purchased pillows to improve the situation. Side window winders were frequently failing, the window would open for game viewing/photographs but then could not be wound up.

What was the most inspirational moment of your trip?

Going on the optional walvis bay dolphin boat trip.I thought it was going to be quite boring but was astounded by the different amount of marine life we saw, from pelicans& cormorants to seals by the hundreds & dolphins. But the crowning glory was seeing a southernwright whale & its calf plus seeing the classic whale scene of its tail fin rising out of the water with water streaming off it.Etosha was amazing, all youcould ever think it would be & a bit more.Plus of course the dunes & in particular hidden vlei.So peaceful.

What did you think of your group leader?
Very knowledgeable on wildlife & where to find it.Always prepared to explain anything to you.
Do you have any advice for potential travellers?
Read a guide on namibia so you know what to expect. If you are into photography check any photo books on namibia they do help they gave me lots of ideas, plus take plenty of memory cards with you (you'll need them). You wont need much money for beer etc as it is really cheap.
Is there anything else you would like to add?

I would love to maybe one day to return there, but it will depend how expensive it has become( i've noticed that the trip is quite a lot dearer next year than it was this year is there a particular reason for this increase?).

What was the most inspirational moment of your trip?

Having wanted to go to Africa for years but always thought Kenya was too on the tourist map and needing so many jabs and not being a lover of needles I thought I'd never get to go.  But after seeing "Animal Park : Wild if Africa" and "Big Cat Diary" on the TV and the sheer mix of all the main animals you'd want to see especially the Cheetahs I decided it was time to go see it for myself and Namibia seemed a good place to start.

What did you think of your group leader?
Benny (the leader) and the guys are the best and I can't thank them enough. How Benny spotted two lions asleep in a bush by the road side while doing 30mph I'll never know as it took me 5 minutes to see them when we were stopped and I knew they were in the bush I was looking at. His knowledge of all the animals and birds we came across and the distances he could recognise them was outstanding. The other guys(Joseph and Dauphin) that set up camp and cooked while we all enjoyed our vacation are also worthy of a mention as what they can do on a camp fire is truly amazing.
Do you have any advice for potential travellers?
If you are taking a camera invest in a good camera bag that zips up as you will get covered in sand at some point (my  Lowepro case protected my camera with only a minimal amount of dust/sand getting in) a blow brush is handy to get rid of the sand that will get on your camera. If it's digital and you need to charge batteries you'll need a South African adaptor (a world wide plug is no use) these are cheap and easy to find in places like Amazon or Gatwick airport as a last resort. Take lot's and I mean lots of memory cards as I came back with over 1700 photos. From a personal comfort point of view take a good warm wind proof fleece as nights can get cold (we had frost on the windscreen one morning) and it can be a little windy when travelling with the roof off.
Is there anything else you would like to add?
It's a completely amazing country with such friendly people and it's not every day you get to see lions, cheetahs, elephants, giraffe, springbok, impala, gemsbok, zebra and rhino in the wild is it.  Everyone I met in Namibia were friendly and I've felt more uncomfortable in London than in Namibia and I can't wait to go back.

What was the most inspirational moment of your trip?

The accommodation was better than expected.  Good lodges, with aircon and fans.

The desert was wonderful - could have done with longer, but maybe the temperatures made this not a good idea.

What did you think of your group leader?
A little quiet to start with, and maybe didn't volunteer as much information as we would have expected.  That said, he expalined that he wanted us to ask questionsso he could get a feel for the interests within the group.  Once he had done this, he was great.  Depth of knowledge on landsacpe and wildlife.
Do you have any advice for potential travellers?

Assume that its going to be hotter than you might expect - aside from the coast.  Silly hats essential.

    Bottled water freely available.

Food very good and plentiful - but not a good country for vegetarians.

Quite a bit of travelling, but well worth it, and plenty of stops.

Is there anything else you would like to add?
We weren't sure if we'd like a wildlife trip - but this one was only 4 days in Etosha, which was perfect.
