A memorable trip with some amazing scenery and many highlights, especially the dunes and Victoria Falls.

What was the most inspirational moment of your trip?
The view from the top of Dune 45 was awe inspiring and well worth the effort.
What did you think of your group leader?
The Group Leader and Driver were both helpful, good fun and wonderful cooks.
Do you have any advice for potential travellers?

The itinerary often vastly under-estimated the length of the drives and you frequently ended up with very little time at your destination to relax and enjoy your location.  The truck lets the trip down as it lacks onboard storage (for hats, water, binoculars, etc. - take a small day bag to put by your feet), has restricted viewing on the game drives when full and some of the seats have seen better days and so aren't comfortable for the long drives - back cushions come in handy.
We took South African Rand and this was accepted nearly everywhere, avoiding the need to regularly change currency.

Is there anything else you would like to add?
This isn't the best trip for game viewing or interacting with different cultures (we were distinctly unwelcome when we did a village tour) but offers the chance to witness the stunning and ever-changing scenery in this part of Africa.
Aside from the few niggles, the trip was excellent.

Truly my trip of a lifetime, even when the van broke down.....

What was the most inspirational moment of your trip?

The main points which I would say are the

    Elephant swimming in the Chobe

    Seeing the hippos eating

    Etosh NP

    The Bungi jump

    Elephant Safari.

    Dune 45

The biggest thing for me personally was Victoria Falls, truly amazing also got to see the Lunar eclipse and also the Lunar Rainbow.

What did you think of your group leader?

I think we were fortunate, in my opinion, to have a fantastic guide in Ronney and an amazing and talented cook in Gecko, who were always up for a laugh and thought that the whole group were mad !

I cannot praise Ronney enough for saving my holiday at the end by turning up with my passport which I stupidly left in the van.

Do you have any advice for potential travellers?

Advice wise, take a good sleeping bag if travelling from the months of May to june, as it can get really really cold at night ( this is coming from a Scottish girl so you have been warned), also take a good head torch as well !

You don't need to take as many clothes as I though, you have the chance to do some laundry at certain stops.

Take lots of memory cards for the camera and batteries or a charger as you will go through them in no time.

Charging facilities on the van are great ( our van was provided by Mabaruli) with everyone being able to charge the ipod at the same time !

Money wise, the trip notes state to take most in Sterling or Dollars, I would say don't!

In Capetown my Clydesdale Bank Sterling £20 note was not accepted as they said it was not English? and all the places you go to accept Rand. I would say take Dollars to Livingstone Zambia as most of the activities are paid this way and most of the shops charge in Dollars as well.

If you get the chance, and its a full Moon, go see the Lunar Rainbow, spectacular !!

The food is amazing, the people are friendly and its a trip of a lifetime go and Enjoy all of it !

Is there anything else you would like to add?

Pay attention to the tour guides when they are giving you advice.

The camping is good, tents are of a good quality and the food that we had was much much much better than you would expect from a campfire.

I had an AMAZING time made all the more great by the people on the trip and the trip leaders. I would do this trip again and again !!

This is a great trip if you want to see the highlights of Southern Africa.  Be prepared for long days of driving, which at the end of each day, the lodge is always a welcome site usually in a remote wilderness.  Overall a fantastic trip, 3 weeks seems a long time initially but when your having fun, time always flies.

What was the most inspirational moment of your trip?

Where to start?  There are so many.

    The beautiful African sunsets.

A herd of 40 elephants drinking at the river bank, we were in a boat just 10 metres away.

Hippos, rhinos, giraffe, zebra and the lions.

And of course, Victoria Falls - just awesome.

What did you think of your group leader?
Excellent group leaders, Ronney and Shane.  Both guides were knowledgeable, friendly and always patient.
Do you have any advice for potential travellers?

Take South African Rands as your currency, it was accepted in all the countries included in the trip.  Don't bother with Travellers Cheques as not possible to exchange in Zambia, seems hit or miss.  US dollars very useful in Zambia or obtain local currency from ATM when you are there.

Likewise, the South African adapter useful in all the countries.

Take your ipod for those long days of driving.

Pack wisely, not too much since you can often pay for laundry to be done over night.

Is there anything else you would like to add?
This is an amazing overland trip, a true adventure with the comfort of lodge accomodation.

What was the most inspirational moment of your trip?

I loved every second of this trip! From seeing our first animal of the trip, a beautiful Eland, to the helicopter ride over Victoria falls. So many breath taking moments!

What did you think of your group leader?

Ronnie and Gecko could not have been more brilliant! Friendly, knowledgeable and extremely hard working, they are a credit to Exodus. They really took care of us and made the trip all the more perfect.

Do you have any advice for potential travellers?

Make sure you take a very good sleeping bag and warm clothes. The nights are freezing!!! Hats and gloves are a must. Other than that, relax, go with the flow, and simply fall in love with Africa.

Is there anything else you would like to add?

Book this trip now! It truly is the best thing I have ever done.

This was the start of a four month round the world trip and was certainly one of the highlights of the whole four months.  It was a mix of fantastic scenery, great game viewing and we felt very well supported throughout by the overland crew.

What was the most inspirational moment of your trip?
Where to start!  Walking with lions in Zambia, seeing the magnificent Victoria Falls by helicopter, staying at the quirky Ngepi campsite, game viewing on land and on the river, the stunning Namibian scenery...
What did you think of your group leader?
Excellent, as were the two other members of the overland crew.  I've been on over 10 Exodus holidays and whilst the group leaders are always very good (one of the reasons I keep going back to Exodus) the crew on this trip were one of the best.
Do you have any advice for potential travellers?
Pack light as there is a lot of moving between campsites!  A small, camping lantern is a good idea and a head torch with spare batteries.  Make sure your plug adaptor is suitable for Africa.  We had two universal adaptors between us and neither worked.  Be considerate of others on game drives, so everyone gets a good view. And finally, all the seats on the overland truck are equally as good!
Is there anything else you would like to add?
This review is for September 2011 trip, Livingstone to Cape Town.

A good trip to really get an insight into Namibia and a taster of South Africa, Botswana and Zambia.

What was the most inspirational moment of your trip?
Almost sharing a tin bath on the banks of the Kavango river with Hippos splashing about beneath me. Seeing the emptyness and fantastic colours of the Southern Namibian landscape.  White water rafting in the Zambezi.
What did you think of your group leader?
    Excellent.
Do you have any advice for potential travellers?
Wear a sports bra if you are female!  Some of the roads are bumpy (particularly in Zambia).

The trip was very well organized, with a spectacular start and endpoint. All the more accessible sights were covered such as game parks, historically significant sites, and deserts and dunes, with a couple of days in a B&B on the coast of Namibia to recuperate halfway through and at the end in Cape Town (needed after weeks in a tent in the desert). Cape Town was a great place to finish the trip.

What was the most inspirational moment of your trip?

Namibia’s vast openness and desert scenery and game viewing in Etosha was amazing – we were lucky to see the big five (even a leopard running along the road not hiding up a tree), zebra, hippos, antelopes of all shapes and sizes (both to see and eat), a cheetah with cubs, and countless birds. Moreover, we went on several boat trips which gave us a different aspect of the animals, village life and the changing landscape.

Swakopmund is a lovely seaside town with good restaurants, pubs and cafés great place to stop for a few days and freshen up - we arranged a sea-kayaking trip at Walvis Bay, where we were surrounded by seals (they’re so much more fun in the sea than on land) and some Benguela dolphins happily played with our kayaks. It was a truly uplifting experience.

What did you think of your group leader?
The group leader (and camp assistants) were very good - great characters who added to the trip. They looked after you very well and made sure you were prepared for the next day's experiences.
Do you have any advice for potential travellers?

Take a washing line and plenty torches/batteries. Drink the water from the van - it is alot more environmentally friendly and fine.

Learn to rise at dawn, find the toilets/shower first and be ready to go within 30 minutes...

Relax and enjoy the trip - don't miss out on any of the games drives as you can guarantee that will be the one time when the rarest animal shows up!

Do the trip starting in Victoria Falls finishing in Cape Town not the other way round.

Is there anything else you would like to add?

You are unlikely to gain an in-depth knowledge of the countries you travel through but it will show how much Southern Africa has to offer.
