  SNOWSHOEING IN THE ITALIAN ALPS

  An excellent week's snowshoeing in the Italian alps. The walking was quite easy for me but that's reflected in the grade of the holiday. We were very lucky with the weather, the snow fell the weekend before we arrived and it was sunny for most of the week. The area is a mecca for ice-climbers with frozen waterfalls everywhere. Most of the other guess in the hotel were ice climbers.

  What was the most inspirational moment of your trip?

  Walking up into the spectacular scenery in the Valnontey valley just above the hotel and looking up to the 4060m summit of Gran Paradiso. I climbed it with Exodus a few years back.

  What did you think of your group leader?

  Ali was an excellent leader, very knowledgable about snow conditions and the general area. Very safety conscious.

  Do you have any advice for potential travellers?

  Take a blister kit (compeed). Snowshoeing makes you walk in a slightly odd gait, some people who normally have no problems developed bad blisters.

  Is there anything else you would like to add?

  The food at the hotel is very good and somewhat overwhelming. The walking is quite gentle. Expect to put on weight!
