Hotel Xander ****
The luxurious and family run Hotel Xander, the oldest inn in the valley, is tucked away next to the onion-domed village church, and has been sensitively modernised to incorporate all the luxuries you would expect of a high class hotel. The huge bedrooms feel more like apartments, with your own lounge area and tea/coffee-making facilities, and the bathrooms have both a bath and a shower.
There is a heated indoor swimming pool, two saunas, steam bath, whirlpool bath and solarium (pay locally), fitness studio, boot room and, if you want to spoil yourself, beauty treatments and massages at extra cost.
All breakfasts and 7 dinners included.
Activity Details Winter walking is ideal for those who want an active week in magnificent scenery, but are not tempted by snowshoeing or cross-country skiing. The emphasis is on relatively gentle walking at a relaxed pace, with plenty of time to admire the scenery. We walk mostly on paths and forest tracks, many of which are cleared or rolled after new snowfall. While there may be some walking in unprepared snow, winter walking weeks do not use snowshoes. Each day the leader will carefully assess the situation and choose the route according to current conditions and those forecast, with the over-riding priority being group safety. Our leaders are required not to proceed with any proposed route (including those mentioned in brochure or trip notes) if they believe the risk to be too high.
This trips runs in partnership with our sister company, Headwater, who offer more flexibility so you can partipcate in the guided walks or have the option of independent walking.
Winter Walking is offered at Grade B, suitable for beginners (with good fitness) and intermediates.
Your Safety All active winter holidays involve some element of risk; from something as normal as slipping on icy pavements, to the possibility of injuries sustained as a result of the activities themselves. While we do all we can to minimize any dangers, participants must be prepared to accept some risk as part of the holiday. We recommend purchasing a form of shoe grips (not crampons), which fit to walking boots to enable safe walking on icy snow. These can't be obtained locally in Leutasch, so you will need to purchase them in advance. Please refer to the 'risk of injury' section at the back of the Winter Activities Brochure, or the online FAQs for this trip for further information. Alpine Skiing Information.
For those not wanting to walk we also offer a winter ski holiday which operates from the same hotel. See the following page: Cross-Country Skiing: Leutasch and Seefeld (Trip code CXS).
Normal group size and age
Normally 2 to 8, plus resident guide. Children who can participate in the skiing are welcome. Minimum age 5.
The vast majority of Exodus adventures are adult group holidays. Groups are always small in size. We strongly believe that this adherence to small groups means a better experience for all; more time with your guide, less waiting around and a reduced impact on the communities and environments visited.
Each group is generally made up of like-minded travellers - with singles, couples and friends all joining in together. All these trips are suitable for single travellers, but if you prefer to travel with clients booking individually, please see our Solo Departures page.
Easy activities requiring a little physical effort for a short amount of time. Previous experience is not necessary at this level, anyone who is reasonably fit and healthy enough to complete a weekend walk will manage.
Walking & Trekking: Trips are wholly trekking-focused or simply include a significant number of walking days during the itinerary.
Winter Activities: It's about seeking out alternative ways to have fun in unspoilt locations, you won't find standard skiing or snowboarding breaks here.
Where you stay is a crucial part of a holiday, and we have gone to great lengths to find accommodation that provides extra comfort, character, convenience and value. Five-star hotels won’t feature on the agenda, but itineraries guarantee a greater degree of comfort after your day’s efforts.
