For me it was the great group of people and good central location which made this holiday, the Christmas-New Year break meant we had extra entertainment and meals layed on in the town.

What was the most inspirational moment of your trip?
The breath taking views and feeling like I was on the film set for Narnia when they first emerged from the waldrobe.
What did you think of your group leader?

Albert was a great leader and had stepped in at the last moment as the usual guide had broken his wrist.  Albert was aware of my limitation with the trip ie mild asthma and I did not feel left out of any activities.  Albert also got into the spirit of the trip and helped to push me down the slope when the sledge got stuck.  I will remember our group for being full of laughter and helping each other along the way, oh and the swopping of food during meal times.

If it all gets too much for you there is usually a bus nearby to escape back to town on, pick up a hotel card to show the driver, but its such a close knit area they will probably get to recognise you.

Do you have any advice for potential travellers?

Purchase your sledges at the Spar in Steinach for 1 euro 20cents.

Take your own cold remedies with you are there is not a chemist in Trins, thick socks and plasters which are like second skin, there will always be someone like me in need of bits and bobs, between us we had quite a selection.

Check out the cost of crampons back home, we were taken to the shop opposit the hotel which sells them for 13 Euros for just the toe sections, I paid 20 Euros for a full set and the cords frayed and broke after two days, they would not give me an exchange or refund and said they would speak to Bob the Cross country ski instructor as I was not happy with this; Bob went to see the owner but it could not be resolved, there is no address on the packaging but I will try and use google to find the supplier.  At lease in the UK you should be able to get an exchange (it was icy walking whilst i was there).

To the vegitarians, the veggie dumplins were sent back by 3 of us as was the pasta on another evening which they have trouble cooking and call noodles - beware.  The fish is surperbe, and they seem to eat their fried chicken pink (according to fellow traveller).  I enjoyed nearly all the meal and you will not go hungrey, ensure you have lots to eat for breakfast and keep you fluids up.  They also put on afternoon tea and cake which was most welcome, oh and the evening meal had about 3-4 courses this may have been because of the festive season, if you dont like icecream which was on most evenings an yummy you can request fruit.

There are no pit toilets (unlike Canada) on route so use every available toilet.

The hotel does not have hot running water in the afternoon so pop over to the sauna for a fantastic shower, be careful as not all of them have hot running water (on purpose) and guys please keep the towel between your legs as I had a nasty shock in the sauna, you know who you are!!!  There is a great chill out room and hair dryer which did cut out most of the time, and plenty of drinking water.

We found our room 203 to be extremely hot and we could not adjust the radiator so opened the window of an evening, the beds are short but as im only 5ft 2in it was fine for me, you taller people may have problems, if the opening of the window does not help try sleeping at the other end of the bed as the radiator was next to our heads.

The bar is incredably smokey which can drift up into the rooms, but the beer was cheaper than the other place we visited in town which I think was Hock bar? ie dark beer 2.80E v 3.20E.

Make sure you get a receipt when you pay your bar tab as they tried to get me to pay mine twice, thank goodness for my witnesses.

The food in the monistry was superb, but take a fraze book with you as none of the menues on our walk have an English version, the soups are great.

We took advantage of Albert our leader on our day off and went cross country skiing, snow shoe walking and sledging, he was so good at taking the time to showing everyone how to ski that I now wish I had taken the plunge (bad exerience last time in Finnland).  Hire of skii 7E, snow shoes 6E, sledges were free from Obernberg where we had previously been, make sure you are nice to them on your first trip and you never know you may be able to borrow their wooden sledges as well.

Go to Innsbrook on the day home, its an easy journey and cost about 6 Euros, the bus to the airport is on line F, bus stop C, when we went, dont get confused with bus stop F.  Its like having a mini break during your holiday.

Have fun, take lots of photos and make snow angels.

Is there anything else you would like to add?

I would like to go back in the summer for a walking trip expecially now I know the routes and bus service.

A holiday is what you make of it, so go with an open mind and heart.  (chocolate also helps cheers guys)

I would also like to take this opportunity to thank my room make Fiona for finding my ski mitten on our day off, whilst we were skiiing and snow shoe walking, she walked into Steinach for lunch and found my mitten on one the wooden posts :o) someone also handed in a wallet one of our group lost with the bits still inside, now thats a really nice surprise.

(I accept all responsabilty for the poor spelling)

Holiday for photographers & lovers of good food.  Gentle walking & relaxed atmosphere

What was the most inspirational moment of your trip?
Tobogganing  & Maria Waldrast valley walk. In the Schmirn valley had a grand cheese & ham tasting followed by good lunch.   Tobogganing in afternoon.  Had our own photographer in group who created a video to boot with video.  Doing tobogganing with camera attached for video can be interesting as well as giving everyone a good laugh(Muggins).  Walking around the Monastery was incredible, the views will blow you away.  They had the best Gluhwein of the trip & you are served by a brother .
What did you think of your group leader?
It was like meeting an old friend when we bumped in at reception.  I had previously done the Summer walking in Trins last September. He was arriving with the main group as I arrived on transport recommended by Bob (Leader).  if you needed anything or lost something Bob could fix it.  Its also nice that the locals all know Bob.  For our days off he gave us all precise instructions on how to get to places in Italy & Innsbruck.  His choice of walks & places for lunch were great.
Do you have any advice for potential travellers?
Tie on your gloves!  We had one wonderful lady who had a habit of losing them.  Carry your thermals, it gets cold.  We had no need for torches but they could be handy.  Shop in Trins is not open on Sundays so bring some snacks for the first day.
Is there anything else you would like to add?

Enjoy, we had a group who got on fantastic.  Bring your camera, our group I think I can safely say took more shots than most groups.  Everyone got in to the spirit of it.  Do not worry too much about fitness, this holiday is not like the summer walks.  A lot easier & more relaxing.  There was so much laughter it was infectious! The bar in the hotel is lovely & cosy. When it came to say goodbye I can honestly say it was hard.  This trip was so special that I am rebooking for Christmas.

To all who walked thank you.  You were one hell of a group,

A great winter break, in beautiful surroundings. Well organised and enjoyable.

What was the most inspirational moment of your trip?
Finishing an excellent lunch in a mountain hut and coming out to discover that the snow had stopped and that the view had opened up. We had loads of snow, and the whole area looked absolutely beautiful.
What did you think of your group leader?
Albert led the walks with no fuss or bother, a complete gentleman. Bob was very efficient and had great local knowledge.
Do you have any advice for potential travellers?

If you are travelling alone, be aware that the "Austrian twin" beds are more like a big double! Request a single room in good time.

Make sure your boots are waterproof.

Is there anything else you would like to add?
I chose this holiday because I had always wanted to visit a winter sports area, but not go skiing. I wasn't tempted by the skiing at all, but this trip is a great way to spend an outdoors week in the snow. Give it a try.

The wonderful scenery is really this holiday's strong point. You get quite a mixture of walks and conditions, although it's not that strenuous and fairly relaxed.

What was the most inspirational moment of your trip?
learning to cross country ski on the "rest day" and not breaking anything this time!
Do you have any advice for potential travellers?
If you suffer from the cold, take warm headgear that covers your ears, and mittens not gloves!  A decent set of thermals and ski trousers are useful. Also don't bother with a Camelbak, even the insulated ones will freeze within a couple of hours - take a thermos for your water instead.
Is there anything else you would like to add?
Be prepared to come across a lot of dumplings!

A very enjoyable week, great walks, wonderful company and smashing food. I've waited a long time to holiday in Austria and I wasn't disapointed, I even plan to return with Exodus in summer and perhaps next winter to try some more cross country skiing.

What was the most inspirational moment of your trip?

    Which to choose? Easy really.

Helping a very nice young lady (I'll spare her blushes) in our group off a mountain on our last walk, she is partially sighted, we were loosing daylight and in forest, so it was becoming a bit of a struggle for her and eventually me as I'd forgot my head torch. We kept in touch and are now dating. A very happy ending to a wonderful holiday.

What did you think of your group leader?

Bob. Yet another very good leader with a passion for the area he leads in. He has been leading in Trins for some years now and knows the area well. I look forward to walking and or skiing with him out there again.

He did get a hard time from our group though, it must be really quiet without us. tee hee.

Do you have any advice for potential travellers?

    Don't eat the yellow snow.

Don't walk in the ski tracks.

Don't do like I did and unintentionally leave your head torch in the hotel. It really isn't much use there if for some reason you don't get back before the sun goes down.

Don't sit at the round table in the bar area. This is for the hairy farmers.

Is there anything else you would like to add?

Dumplings. An ongoing topic of our trip. Well for two of us anyway.

Cake O'clock. The period between getting back to the hotel from a walk and going for a shower/sauna before dinner.
