A fantastic holiday; stunning scenery and a lovely location. Oliver and Elaine, the "cake extraordinaire", at the Chalet Savoy, made everyone feel welcome. Be prepared for food, fresh air and plenty of exercise!

What was the most inspirational moment of your trip?

Learning how to cross-country ski (classic).

The trip through the woods on the snowmobile with the view of Mont Blanc and the snow-covered chalet, where our mulled wine awaited, was splendid!

What did you think of your group leader?
Our group leader, Oliver Ensor, is - well - a bit of a legend really. He has patience and humour and boundless energy. Must be the mountain air and Elaine's cakes.  We thought aching muscles would cause us to groan but Oliver's corny jokes just hedged them!
Do you have any advice for potential travellers?

I'd never been on a winter holiday before. Hadn't done any kind of skiing or winter activities. This was a great entree and having learned how to x-country ski (and fall over) I'd definitely like to do more of this. This trip is an informal week, great fun, plenty of variety ... and did I mention Elaine's cakes?

I wouldn't take what I fondly call "padded pants" again as I got quite hot (we had stonkin' weather) when cross country skiing. I did wear a pair of waterproof walking trousers over some thermal long-johns (dead sexy) and this was much better. A peaked cap is definitely a good idea, especially for the snowshoe walk on the last day ... I forgot mine.

Is there anything else you would like to add?

I felt like chuffin' Julie Andrews up on them mountains and how I didn't burst into "The Hills are Alive ... " I just don't know!

Do yourself a favour and book this trip. It's marvellous!

What was the most inspirational moment of your trip?

20km of Classic Cross-Country ski-ing in the Val Feret - our second day on skis.

Completing all the Cross Country tracks around Chamonix - our third day on skis.

What did you think of your group leader?

Oliver is a great guide - balancing instruction with encouragement - shame about the jokes...

Elaine's cooking is excellent - missing those cakes...

Do you have any advice for potential travellers?

    Make sure you're reasonably fit.

Take gear for cold - you may not need it, but we had temperatures as low as -15 some days: yet for some reason the trip notes suggest that thermal underwear is not required!

Lose weight before coming - there will be plenty of opportunity to put on the pounds ;-)

We returned to this phantastic region having enjoyed the summer Mont Blanc Highlights trip in 2007 and it won't be our last time. We loved the mix of winter activities, the new hot tub and Oliver's & Elaine's hospitality.

What was the most inspirational moment of your trip?
The dog sledging trip and hot chocolate Italian style (you need a spoon to eat it!)
What did you think of your group leader?
Oliver has great leadership skills ensuring all enjoy their holiday to the full. His sense of humor lightens up the days. The holiday would not be the same without Elaine's yummy cooking and all the other hard work.
Do you have any advice for potential travellers?

Be prepared to give all the activities a go - you may surprise yourself how fit you are and what you can achieve.

Is there anything else you would like to add?
If all else fails there is usually a cafe somewhere nearby.

This was a very enjoyable holiday, offering the chance to to experience several winter activities. Based on this holiday I really want to continue with cross country skiing.

What was the most inspirational moment of your trip?
For me the most inspirational moment was being able to ski around Val Ferret without supervision.
What did you think of your group leader?
Oliver and Elaine were great people. Oliver was patient with people, always had pun to lighten the mood and was clearly enthusiastic about cross country skiing. Elaine provided great food for us, including  MASSIVE cakes for afternoon tea.
Do you have any advice for potential travellers?

Pack lots of layers of clothing! While you're doing these activities you will get very warm, but by the same token, you will need warm clothes for the start of the day.

You will be well fed when you stay at Chalet Savoy, and if you gave them warning about food preferences they were very kind at trying to accomodate them. The vegetarians in our group were pleasantly surprised with the variety of food they were offered, it wasn't a parade of cheese, cheese and more cheese at evening meals.

Is there anything else you would like to add?
This holiday does require reasonable fitness - but I had a great time despite being portly. The schedule is good where you effectively have 2 heavy days, followed by two days of lighter exertion and then back to the tougher stuff.

We did the Mont Blanc Highlights in Sept - that exceeded our expectations and gave us the impetus to do the Winter activities. Neither of us had done a Winter holiday before but we felt complete confidence in Oliver ( and Elaine) to look after us.

What was the most inspirational moment of your trip?

    The dog-sledding

The realisation that snow-shoeing gave us freedom on the mountains

What did you think of your group leader?
We had total confidence in Oliver. He met every criterion for excellent mountain leadership plus the bonuses of warmth, good humour and real care for each person in the party.
Is there anything else you would like to add?
Elaine's cakes (and the ponchos) were wonderful!
