I had a tremendous Christmas holiday, beautiful scenery, great group of people, good tour leader, done  load of winter activities within a short period of time and enjoyed it every minutes.

What was the most inspirational moment of your trip?
The dog sledging was the highlight of my trip, it was a bit scarely for the beginning to handle three huskies on your own sledge however, Phillipe kindly explained to us from the beginning how to ride a sledge and how to get up in case you fell of, unfortunately it happened in my case, my sledged hit a tree when we tried turn left and I remembered that he said we need to hold the break first before turning the sledge back and then carry on, which I did and I was glad that I managed it without any injury.
What did you think of your group leader?

Emma is wonderful and very helpful, she is very knowledgeable of the local area and alps, she ensured every one enjoyed their winter activities even for the first timer.  On next day, we tried half day cross country classic ski and then snow shoes in the afternoon for a taster, the following day Julia taught us the technique on cross country ski and skate.  Finally and not least, Lindsay taught us how to use the snow-shoeing for uphill walk.  At the end of the week, we were able to enjoy the winter activities like a pro in such a short period of time.

Do you have any advice for potential travellers?

This is not a relax holiday, physical fitness is needed if you want to try all activities that offer on the itinerary and I would suggest do some yoga and body pump is a good start, as it will definitely more enjoyable to have a certain level of fitness.  Make sure you bring your camera and extra memory card as the scenery is beautiful and stunning.

Is there anything else you would like to add?

I would recommend this to everyone even for the first timer on winter activities, you will never know what you could achieve at the end of the holiday, beautiful scenery, great people and not to mention that improved your physical fitness too.

What was the most inspirational moment of your trip?

The dog-sledding was amazing (it was on my bucket list, so that's been ticked off), although be warned...you get really cold feet.

Snow-shoeing was great fun, not too hard and a good laugh. We stopped for a drink at the most beautiful restaurant on the hillside above the chalet, and as we walked down again the ice crystals hanging in the air made it look like we were walking through glitter. I've never seen anything like it.

What did you think of your group leader?
Oliver is fantastic. He is so enthusiastic (and tells the corniest jokes). He always helps you out with advice on all the activities, even though some of them are really tough. He has great knowledge of the area, having lived there for 20 years and gives great advice on things to do on your free day.
Do you have any advice for potential travellers?

The grading of leisurely to moderate is mostly right, there are some leisurely bits like the train ride, and the horse sleigh ride, but don't think for one minute it's going to all be easy! Some of the cross country skiing is particularly hard-work, but having said that, there are loads of other options for activities, so you can do as much or as little as you like.

Is there anything else you would like to add?

Before you go, you will wonder why so many people comment on Elaine's cake....it really is the most incredible cake. They are huge, and different every day, and delicious.

Oh, and Dylan the dog is sooo cute!

What was the most inspirational moment of your trip?
On the last day we did a snow shoe walk and had some fantastic views of Mount Blanc.  Very inspirational.
What did you think of your group leader?
Oliver was fantastic.  He had endless jokes and kept us all entertained.
Do you have any advice for potential travellers?
Some of the activities did require a bit of physical fitness and it is probably worth considering getting a bit on the fit side, as it would make the whole experience a bit more enjoyable to have a certain level of fitness.
Is there anything else you would like to add?
This was an excellent opportunity to get a bit of a taster for a variety of winter activities.  The whole experience was ace, the region is beautiful and certianly a great way of spending a week

This is a fantastic holiday for meeting new people, trying new things and experiencing the beautiful Alps. The skiing, snowshoeing and other activities provide a good day's workout but also allow plenty of time for relaxation and appreciating the stunning surroundings. It's a real spirit-uplifter.

What was the most inspirational moment of your trip?
I was a bit apprehensive about the dog sledding. When we arrived, the huskies were excitedly howling and the slope looked steep. 'Phillipe' commented on the icy conditions and said that the men should drive the sleds first as the dogs would be too much for the ladies! When my turn came to drive the sled I was convinced that I would come flying off but managed to stay on and enjoy the exhilarating ride.
What did you think of your group leader?
Oliver and Elaine are superb hosts. Oliver had us all cross country skiing after half a day's practice, and most people had never tried it before. We even mastered both classic and skate methods. Oliver has a knack for making people feel good about themselves so that you're not self conscious or worrying about your technique, you're only focusing on moving freely and enjoying it. And when we came back from a hard day's activity Nog (the cat) was waiting to greet us, there was a huge cake in the upstairs sitting room and, to follow, a delicious three course dinner cooked by Elaine.
Do you have any advice for potential travellers?

I would not recommend eating large amounts before you go on this holiday as you will find that you can't resist the afternoon cake, even if you try very hard...

Is there anything else you would like to add?

Get in quick and book this holiday! Hopefully Elaine and Oliver will continue to run this holiday for a very long time but in case they don't I would book it now. No matter what age you are, you will enjoy many laughs, the best dinners you've had for a long time and lots of encouragement with your skiing. And having sampled the atmosphere of the nearby celebrity bar at the Granges D'en Haut, I can honestly say that the hospitality at Chalet Savoy is far superior.

What was the most inspirational moment of your trip?
I particularly loved the cross country skiing and snow shoe walking as the scenery is very inspiring.  We were lucky in that we had clear blue skies and sunshine.  The views were majestic.  Relaxing in the hot tub in the evening with views over the mountains was also a highlight and will be remembered fondly now I am home in the greyness of britain.
What did you think of your group leader?
Oliver ran all the activities and was excellent. He is very experienced and got us all skiing very quickly even though some of us were absolute beginners.  Elaine ran the chalet and her cooking is legendary - a particular highlight is the fantastic cakes.
Do you have any advice for potential travellers?
Take layers as the weather these days is unpredictable.  For us it was very cold in the morning and hot in the afternoon, so it is important to take layers.  Do not forget sunglasses or sunscreen
Is there anything else you would like to add?
A very enjoyable holiday.  Lots of fun, good food, excellent activities and great people.  What more could you ask for.

A trip that suppased my expectations. Lots of different activities and challenges, snow, good company, great accomadation and location and wonderful hosts in Elaine and Oliver who made you feel relaxed and totally at home at Chalet Savoy.

What was the most inspirational moment of your trip?
Everything was super. Probably the snow shoeing and XC skiing for me but everything was good. Skating on what seemed to be our own private ice rink, being pulled along at 100mph by the huskies sledging, being slobered over by the St Bernards and well the views of the alps  must be a highlight as well especially of Mont Blanc.....  The food and the homemade cakes waiting everyday for us on getting home after a day of activity, the hot tub to relax in and look at the mountains with a glass of wine, the snow itself, our hosts and accomadation..............I could go on so many.
What did you think of your group leader?

Oliver was brillant. Full of local knowledge  about different places we visited and an exellent teacher  with lots of advice when trying the new activities. Was able to pitch it at all levels from beginners to those who had done some of the things before and very patient with us all. A true master at organising us all and the jokes...they have to be heard!!!!

Elaine's cakes and cooking is a legend and having  cake withdrawl symptoms already!

Do you have any advice for potential travellers?
hard one - running gear good as need layers. Can get quite hot after 10 minutes or so of snow shoeing or XC skiing and have to peel off.  Need a "buff" and a hat and gloves with a second pair underneath so again can strip off. If I was going again would take a small thermos flask for coffee on the mountain and my croc slippers!  On reflection I probably took too much. No fancy evening clothes needed at all which  was great!
Is there anything else you would like to add?
I recommend this to anyone wanting a taste of winter sport activities.  Just enough of everything. I came on my own leaving my husband and son at home and had a ball - great group and for a "one off" winter holiday was just what I wanted. On day off a few did downhill skiing and had a great time and I did more XC and some went to a spa so something for everyone. Oliver helped us all sort this out.  Holiday may seem expensive on the surface but really good value for money and spent hardly anything else......just brilliant and want to go back!
