Reality Check
This trip consists of five moderate to challenging daywalks with snowshoes. No previous snowshoeing experience is necessary. Grade B/C. You will need a decent level of fitness before joining this holiday.
Snowshoes are adaptable to fit most trekking boot sizes, however if you wear larger than UK size 12 boots (US13 or EU47) please let us know at the time of booking. We will then be able to confirm if we can provide suitable snowshoes for you.
Altitude gain varies between 600-800 metres (2000-2800 feet) on most days, and there are some sections of steep ascent and descent. Average number of hours of walking is about 5 per day, when you add in a couple of hours for lunch and other breaks, expect to be out from 9:00am till 4.30pm.
All active winter holidays involve some element of risk; from something as normal as slipping on icy pavements, to the possibility of injuries sustained as a result of the activities themselves. While we do all we can to minimize any dangers, participants must be prepared to accept some risk as part of the holiday. Please see the 'risk of injury' note at the back of the Winter Activities brochure, or the onlline FAQs for this trip for further information.
Mountain Snowshoeing We have chosen to categorize this holiday as 'Mountain snowshoeing'. This is described as: taking place in mountainous terrain, but where we restrict travel to areas considered to have very low or non-existent avalanche risk. In certain extreme conditions avalanches may become a risk in areas generally considered to be safe, and standard walks may have to be re-routed, replaced or cancelled. There will be steep and dangerous terrain in the region, but this can be easily avoided in the choice of walks.
Each day the leader will carefully assess the situation and choose the route according to current conditions and those forecast, with the overriding priority being group safety. Our leaders are required not to proceed with any proposed route (including those mentioned in brochure or trip notes) if they believe the risk to be unacceptable.
Normal group size and age
Normally 4 to 10. Minimum age 16.
Icons explained
The vast majority of Exodus adventures are adult group holidays. Groups are always small in size. We strongly believe that this adherence to small groups means a better experience for all; more time with your guide, less waiting around and a reduced impact on the communities and environments visited.
Each group is generally made up of like-minded travellers - with singles, couples and friends all joining in together.
All these trips are suitable for single travellers, but if you prefer to travel with clients booking individually, please
see our Solo Departures page.
In order to provide a more accurate grading system, where a trip falls between two grades we use an intermediate or split grade, for example Moderate/Challenging. Occasionally, there are optional activities available en route, in this case the optional grade is indicated in brackets, for example Grade Challenging (climb Tough+). Clearly, conditions may differ from region-to-region or month-to-month and as such the information given on these pages is designed to act as a guide only. In all cases you should refer to the respective holiday's Trip Notes for further details.
Walking & Trekking: Trips are wholly trekking-focused or simply include a significant number of walking days during the itinerary.
Winter Activities: It's about seeking out alternative ways to have fun in unspoilt locations, you won't find standard skiing or snowboarding breaks here.
Wilderness: Visit the deserts, jungles, plateaux, tundra and mountains of all seven continents, including Antarctica.
For those clients who wish to travel with a group of other solo/single travellers, on certain trips we have set aside departure dates that are specifically recommended for clients booking individually. Solo departures are aimed at taking away that concern that you may be the only solo traveller when you arrive overseas. Look out for the solo departures (marked with a grey icon's') by checking the notes in the dates and prices table.
However, please note that we inform any couples, or friends travelling together, who enquire about these dates that the trip is recommended for solos, but we do not refuse bookings from non-solo travellers, and we are therefore not able to guarantee that a solo departure will be exclusively made up of solo travellers.
