Had a brilliant time, amongst wonderful scenery, with expert tuition in every activity and the emphasis on having fun.The quality of equipment and clothing that were provided was outstanding.Definately our best winter holiday yet.
- What was the most inspirational moment of your trip?
Dogsledding - sensational - the best part of the trip.
Seeing the Aurora Borealis on the last night, whilst eating salmon, freshly cooked over an open fire.
Cross-country skiing on the sparkly, frozen lake in total silence under a beautiful pinky coloured sky.
Steaming in the hot tub with totally white frozen hair.
Playing warm-up games like snow hockey,(with TWO balls), ;blindman's bluff,(a very funny version of), ; and relay races using a variety of different sledges.
The company of a wonderful group of people.
- What did you think of your group leader?
Absolutely brilliant, as were every single one of the staff.
- Do you have any advice for potential travellers?
There is not much to do in Ruka, if you're not downhill skiing or snowmobiling. It only takes a very short time to look round.
Some of our group were very cold when passengers on the backs of the snowmobiles, despite all our extra clothing, and heated hand grips. (The drivers managed to keep warm though, as they were more enclosed), so make sure you wear as much as you can, especially on hands, feet and face.
- Is there anything else you would like to add?
Very, very impressed with everything supplied - way beyond our expectations - even head torches and flasks.
All the buildings at Basecamp Oulanka were beautifully warm , even though the outside temperature got down to -39 degrees some days.
