Varied snowshoe walks through Italy's most stunning mountain range
From our superb hotel in the village of Villabassa, just north of Cortina d'Ampezzo, we have access to several excellent areas for snowshoe exploration. Walking along forest trails and old military tracks, we reach the magnificent viewpoints of Durrakopf (2275m) and Strudelkopf (2307m). As we enjoy lunch from picturesque refuges, we absorb the Dolomites fascinating history from World War 1. Many wonderful routes take us into the Fanes-Sennes Natural Park, along the shoreline of Lago di Braies and beneath the impressive Tre Cime de Lavaredo, surely the most famous image of the entire Dolomites. Look out for special weeks where we will enjoy more challenging snowshoe walks, perhaps to the summit of Monte Calvo (2493m) for panoramic views over the Dolomites' jagged peaks.
