WINTER WALKING: ASIAGO

Shouldered between the high peaks of the Dolomites and the Adriatic Sea lies the wonderful Altopiano di Asiago, which boasts seven different areas waiting to be explored on foot. Asiago's high plain, renowned for its association with cross-country skiing, is also the ideal location for winter walking, thanks to most routes starting between 1000m and 1500m. Our walks journey through the sheltered forests of Bosco Nero, the open plains of Gallio (1090m) and beyond, always rewarded with impressive panoramic views. For easy access to each of the seven areas, we spend the week in a comfortable family-run hotel in Asiago, the epicentre of the Altopiano, where our cross-country skiing trip is also based. The free day offers an opportunity to visit the fascinating city of Venice and relax in the highest and richest symbol of Venetian civilisation - Piazza San Marco.
