Fly Heathrow to Tromso, transfer to Smarthotel (approx. 15 mins).
After breakfast we transfer to the starting point of our expedition, where we will provided with the necessary equipment for time in the arctic. After a brief lesson about the basics of dogsledding our leader will break the first trail of the expedition as we head deep into the Scandinavian wilderness. Today we head for the beautiful valley of Signaldalen, whose characteristic jagged peaks tower above the vast expanse of white. Weather dependant we will overnight in a simple but cosy cabin, but not before taking care of our dog teams, feeding them and settling them down for the night.
As the sun slowly rises over the Signaldalen Valley, it becomes apparent how far removed from city life we really are. After rousing the dogs from their slumber and preparing them for the day ahead, we cross the border into neighbouring Finland. Heading down from the mountains we begin to see signs of civilisation as we approach Kilpisjarvi, the northwesternmost point of Finland. When in Kilpisjarvi we head to 69°03'36°N 20°32'56°E, which is the exact location where all three countries meet at one border and is the only place where you can visit Norway, Sweden and Finland at once. It is here that we have our lunch. In the evening we settle into a cabin in Kilpisjaervi, where is is possible to relax in a sauna, and warm up by a roaring log fire.
Today we say goodbye to Finland as we head back into the valley's of Norway and once more towards Tromso. After bidding farewell to our trusty companions we transfer back to Tromso, where there is free time in the evening to explore the city, or enjoy an optional Northern Lights Safari.
