Reality Check

Five days of gentle walking on snowshoes at a relaxed pace, from a comfortable base with good facilities.

Sometimes our routes keep to the shelter of the birch and spruce trees, occasionally crossing frozen lakes and climbing low fells, making our own tracks across the snow. We include one free day for extra self-guided snowshoeing, optional downhill skiing or cross-country skiing.

Walking Conditions/Activity Details On most days we will aim to be out on snowshoes for 4 to 6 hours, starting and finishing at the door of the hotel and with no need for transport. Sometimes we may follow tracks laid for skiers but mostly we will make our way through unbroken snow. The pace will be unhurried although on cold days it will be especially important to keep moving steadily - the leader will ensure there are plenty of stops for food and photography, but you should try to avoid stopping at other times.

Grade: A/B Your safety All active winter holidays involve some element of risk; from something as simple as slipping on icy pavements, to the possibility of injuries sustained as a result of the activities themselves. While we do all we can to minimize any dangers, participants must be prepared to accept some risk as part of the holiday.

Low level snowshoeing We have chosen to categorize this holiday as 'Low Level Snowshoeing', which is described as snowshoeing over flat or undulating terrain, where avalanche risk is non-existent, there are no big-drops and very steep terrain is rare. There is minimal risk of injury from falls or slides on icy terrain. Snowshoes are adaptable to fit most trekking boot sizes, however if you wear larger than size 12 boots please let us know at the time of booking. We will then be able to confirm if we can provide suitable snowshoes for you.

Normal group size and age

Adult Group Holidays The vast majority of Exodus adventures are adult group holidays. Groups are always small in size. We strongly believe that this adherence to small groups means a better experience for all; more time with your guide, less waiting around and a reduced impact on the communities and environments visited.
Each group is generally made up of like-minded travellers - with singles, couples and friends all joining in together. All these trips are suitable for single travellers, but if you prefer to travel with clients booking individually, please see our Solo Departures page.

Moderate Relatively full days, with 3-4 hours of physical activity, although occasional longer or harder days may be involved. Previous experience is not necessary, but you should be confident of your fitness level.

Walking & Trekking Walking & Trekking: Trips are wholly trekking-focused or simply include a significant number of walking days during the itinerary.

Winter Activities Winter Activities: It's about seeking out alternative ways to have fun in unspoilt locations, you won't find standard skiing or snowboarding breaks here.

Wilderness Wilderness: Visit the deserts, jungles, plateaux, tundra and mountains of all seven continents, including Antarctica.
