Accommodation
LAPPIS LODGE, WILDERNESS CABIN & ICEHOTEL
Our accommodation for 4 nights is a comfortable lodge, known as 'Lappis Lodge', in the wild north of Sweden, with en suite twin rooms, shower and hot tub. On one night we stay in a wilderness camp heated by wood-burning stoves, and there are wood-fired saunas instead of showers. We also spend 1 night in the famous Icehotel in Jukkasjarvi, where we usually reserve ice rooms, with unique artwork decorating the room. Experience a night sleeping on reindeer skins and enjoy waking up to a cup of hot lingonberry juice.
Food
All breakfasts, 5 lunches and 5 dinners included.
Reality Check
This trip operates in Scandinavian winter, when temperatures are often extreme, with some long, more strenuous days and limited daylight in the early part of the winter. Although the trip requires no more than an average level of fitness, a harder attitude and constitution is required. Grade B (see our website for further information on our grades).
Activity Details
Snowmobiling On flat or rolling terrain snowmobile accidents are rare, and our guides will follow prepared and signed trails for most of the time. As snowmobiles can reach high speeds, drivers must be responsible for safe driving, and most follow the instructions given by the guide to avoid injury and snowmobile damage. All drivers must be over 17 and have a valid (car) driving licence. You will be liable to pay for any damage to snowmobiles up to the excess on the insurance policy, which is 5,000 SEK (currently equivalent to GBP420) per machine. Your tour leader will ask you to sign a form agreeing to the above. This means, that in the unlikely event that you damage a snowmobile in a major way, you will only be charged the excess and not the full cost of repair. Snowmobiles are easy to drive safely and damage is very rare if the drivers are alert and considerate.
Dogsledding While speeds rarely exceed 20 km per hour, injuries can occur if a sled tips over or leaves the trail, and participants should be prepared for this risk. Those who do not wish to drive their own sled can opt to travel on the guides sled or simply sit in the passenger seat and let their riding partner do the work.
Low level snowshoeing We have chosen to categorize this holiday as 'Low Level Snowshoeing', which is described as snowshoeing over flat or undulating terrain, where avalanche risk is non-existent, and there are no big-drops and very steep terrain is rare. There is minimal risk of injury from falls or slides on icy terrain.
Igloo Building Building and sleeping in igloos is relatively safe if properly supervised. There is a small chance of collapse during the building stage, which can be scary if you are inside. Safe igloos require low temperatures, if temperatures are close to, or above freezing, the leader may decide that sleeping in the igloos is not a safe option.
Normal group size and age
Normally min. 1, max. 12, plus leader. Minimum age 18.
Misc
The Northern Lights
The stunning Aurora Borealis is one of nature's most awe-inspiring sights. Displays vary in intensity - from a greenish yellow glow moving gently around the sky, to a spectacular multi-coloured show dancing across the heavens.
Sightings not only vary in intensity but in duration too from just minutes to sometimes hours. On a weeklong stay, you have a reasonably high chance of seeing the most spectacular light show on earth.

The vast majority of Exodus adventures are adult group holidays. Groups are always small in size. We strongly believe that this adherence to small groups means a better experience for all; more time with your guide, less waiting around and a reduced impact on the communities and environments visited.
Each group is generally made up of like-minded travellers - with singles, couples and friends all joining in together.
All these trips are suitable for single travellers, but if you prefer to travel with clients booking individually, please
see our Solo Departures page.
Relatively full days, with 3-4 hours of physical activity, although occasional longer or harder days may be involved. Previous experience is not necessary, but you should be confident of your fitness level.
Special Interest: For those who have a passion for archaeology, food, flowers, languages or yoga. Solar eclipse departures and specialist conservation holidays are also included.
Serious Adventure: These trips are what Exodus is all about. Join us!
Winter Activities: It's about seeking out alternative ways to have fun in unspoilt locations, you won't find standard skiing or snowboarding breaks here.
Mixed Activities: Activities may range from the ordinary (for example walking, cycling or whitewater rafting) to the damn right extraordinary (including caving, camel riding or canyoning).
Wilderness: Visit the deserts, jungles, plateaux, tundra and mountains of all seven continents, including Antarctica.
