The Goms Valley in southwest Switzerland is an oasis of perfection. Carved over millennia by the Rhone Glacier, it is one of the least known and most scenic landscapes of The Valais, a winter sports paradise with an excellent snow sure record. The valley is guarded by majestic 3000m peaks, below which a dozen traditional villages still flourish.
Our base is on the edge of the pretty farming village of Obergesteln, one of the highest in the valley. and perfectly placed for the train station and ski school, both an easy five minute walk from the door.
Three morning lessons with a professional local ski instructor are included. The ski school owner is Koni Hallenbarter who competed at two Winter Olympics for Switzerland, so you can relax in the knowledge you’re in the very best hands!

Our Cross-Country Skiing Taster trips allow people to get a taste of what cross-country skiing is like without the pressure of keeping up with a group. There is no leader for this trip but it is perfect if this is your first time in the tracks and want to gradually build confidence independently. This trip is run in partnership with our sister company, Headwater, who offer more flexibility so you can ski as much or as little as you like. Children may join these holidays as long as they can participate in the activities and please note if travelling on your own, a single supplement will be applied. Insurance details are required at the time of booking.
What makes this trip responsible?
During this trip we stay in the Hotel Hubertus, a charming family-run hotel. To minimise our impact we travel in a small group of only eight passengers. We also use local ski schools for our ski lessons with expert instructors who have incredible knowledge of their area.
