Our base for this holiday is Kandersteg, a picture postcard village in the heart of the Bernese Oberland. The combination of high trails and wonderful open plateaux make it a superb cross country ski choice for all ages and abilities.
The ski programme is both varied and flexible. We've included 3 half-days tuition with the local ski school to get you started, then you're free to explore independently or book additional lessons locally.
The 75kms or so of trails are beautifully marked, easy to follow and incredibly picturesque. They undulate through snowy pines by the hotel and extend up to the sunny plateaux at Oeschinensee and Sunnbuel which are easily reached by chairlift or cable car.
We have included unlimited free rides on the local bus network, giving you the opportunity to extend your skiing further from the hotel.

Our Cross-Country Skiing Taster trips allow people to get a taste of what cross-country skiing is like without the pressure of keeping up with a group. There is no leader for this trip but it is perfect if this is your first time in the tracks and want to gradually build confidence independently. This trip is run in partnership with our sister company, Headwater, who offer more flexibility so you can ski as much or as little as you like. Children may join these holidays as long as they can participate in the activities and please note if travelling on your own, a single supplement will be applied. Insurance details are required at the time of booking.
What makes this trip responsible?
During this trip we stay in the Alfa Soleil Hotel, a traditional family-run hotel. To minimise our impact we travel in a small group of only eight passengers. We also use a local ski school for our lessons with expert instructors who have incredible knowledge of their area.
