  CROSS-COUNTRY SKIING TASTER - SAARISELKA

  There is no rep from exodus on this trip (unlike previous Exodus holidays we have taken). You need to make your own way from the airport to the hotel, find out where to meet for skiing, book other trips on your own or ask at the front desk. The main hotel rooms are very basic and were far too small for three people with winter gear to share. We asked to upgrade and were lucky there was an empty apartment in the block behind the hotel....very smart with a small kitchen and sauna in the bathroom. It would have been helpful to have been able to book this before we left the UK. The cross country skiing involved three x 2 hour tuition sessions ....after this you needed had to find your own way around the cross country trails. It is reasonably safe and very beautiful but without guidance notes for suggestions of what to do/ where to visit we had to rely on picking up information from the locals.

  What was the most inspirational moment of your trip?

  Climbing to the top of the viewpoint restaurant with cross country skis for what seemed hours of hard work only to find the local bus stop at the summit. Northern lights seen from the village. Food was very good at the hotel despite being so far north with limited supplies

  What did you think of your group leader?

  There wasn't one on this trip

  Do you have any advice for potential travellers?

  Rooms very basic, food good. Be prepared for temps as low as minus 30 although it had warmed up to minus 4 or so when we were there...the sun came out and the scenery was amazing. Persevere on the stunning cross country trails...they are illuminated at night so you can ski back even if it goes dark.

  Is there anything else you would like to add?

  Husky dog trip was great fun although you shoot along at uncontrolled speed as the dogs take no notice of you but seem to know where they are supposed to go.

  Headwater are one of our sister companies, and this holiday is a Headwater holiday that we have sold on their behalf. Whilst Headwater share the same core values and principles as Exodus, there are some subtle differences between our trips and I am sorry if you felt that it was not explained clearly enough that there would be no leader on the trip. The hoteliers and ski instructors are however on hand to point you in the right direction on the slopes and to advise you about the local area.

  It sounds as though you were also lucky enough to see a good display of the Northern Lights during your stay and had an exhilarating husky sled ride!
