  compact, friendly ski resort in gentle hills, made for some relaxing walking and skiing. Not the Alps and not for the white-knuckle riders but a good all-rounder centre.

  What was the most inspirational moment of your trip?

  48 hours of gentle snow, then going out in it for cross-country skiing - peaceful, smooth, swishing....

  What did you think of your group leader?

  Yuri was reasonably attentive, well informed about local activities and Czech history and just a bit sarcastic about vegetarians. As all Czech Republicans are.

  Do you have any advice for potential travellers?

  This lot are still a bit behind when it comes to smoking; look for hotels and restaurants which have no-smoking areas; don't expect any bars to have them. Changing money seems to be cheaper in Prague than Britain - the spread between buyng and selling is less. Spindleruv Mlyn is a two-horse one-shop town, so if you have some special delicacy you can't survive without then bring it with you.

  Is there anything else you would like to add?

  Remember the weather can mess things up; our dog sledding was called off because the dogs got snowed in (woof, woof) which was a big disappointment for some. i'm told they just fart a lot in your face, so I didn't mind an extra day's cross-country.

  What was the most inspirational moment of your trip?

  I had looked forward to getting more confident at cross-country skiing, having tried it once before. I was able to achieve this and enjoy some great mountain scenery at the same time. I am now thinking of booking a week of cross-country skiing next year!

  The night skiing was also great - not something I had done before. More experienced downhill skiers might find the slopes a bit tame but they were just right for me.

  What did you think of your group leader?

  Yuri was sociable within the group and knowledgeable about the local area and its history. Organisation and attention to detail were adequate, although he wasn't very sympathetic to my needs as a vegetarian.

  Do you have any advice for potential travellers?

  If you are looking for a brief introduction to a number of different winter activities then this is the trip for you. If you don't like smoky bars then this may not be the trip for you...

  You will need a certain amount of confidence and fearlessness to get to grips with the activities if you are new to them. Not a trip for someone who is afraid of falling over.

  Despite my earlier comment, don't worry if you are vegetarian - there are lots of suitable restaurants in Spindleruv Mlyn. I had a very nice Mexican meal one night!
