A great introduction to dogsledding in an excellent setting

Donovaly has grown from a small village in the Low Tatras into one of Slovakia's best known winter destinations. It is known to the dogsledding community as the setting for the World and European Championship sprint race, which brings together the best and fastest European mushers and their dog teams. There can be few better locations for a weekend's introduction to this unique activity. The forests and fields around the area provide the perfect terrain on which to learn the skills and get to know the dogs, in the company of Dano our local musher and regular competitor in some of Europe's biggest races. After picking up the basics the teams will be let off the leash on a longer tour. The two-person sleds offer the chance to take control and also to sit back and enjoy the ride, powered by your ever-willing team. Our routes take us through stunning scenery, encountering mountain settlements and varying terrain in this beautiful part of Slovakia.
What makes this trip responsible?
Tourism is playing a crucial role in the development of the rural Slovakian economy since the breakup of Czechoslovakia and one of our local operator's main goals is to benefit local communities through tourism. This trip uses a family-run pension in an up and coming winter sports area. The main activity uses a local small scale provider, (literally one man and his dogs!) who has extensive knowledge of the area.
