8 days from GBP795 to GBP895 including flights
Tripcode: CVM
Itinerary
- Day 1
- Fly from Gatwick to Ljubljana with Adria Airways (20.50 - 23.55), transfer by road to Bled (30 mins).
- Day 2
- We head to Bohinjska Bela (about 10 minutes from Bled) for a morning of tubing. Inflated HGV inner tubes make excellent sleds, and we will have time for a number of exhilarating runs. The slopes are prepared especially for tubing and the runs range from 50 metres to 200 metres (so options for all). After this a 1-hour walk takes us up the oldest mountain pass in Europe to the start of a 4 km toboggan run. We use traditional wooden toboggans with metal runners to descend the long track down. Pension Berc
- Day 3
- A 30-minute transfer takes us to the magnificent forested Pokljuka Plateau, our start point for a 2-day snowshoeing expedition. We head through the forest until we reach a wide-open meadow. This is a good place for lunch, before we continue upwards through the forest to Blejska Koca. Mountain Hut
- Day 4
- The second day of snowshoeing has various options according to the weather, snow conditions, and ability of the group. There is usually time to climb to a ridge or small peak for excellent views across the Julian Alps. We descend back to Pokljuka and return by minibus to Bled. Pension Berc
- Day 5
- Free day with options for downhill skiing at Kranjska Gora (on the world cup downhill circuit), snow biking, or day trip to world famous Skocjan caves. Kranjska Gora is a 30-minute drive from Bled and is an excellent area for a days skiing. The slopes range from beginners to advanced slopes used in the downhill world cup. Instruction is available for beginners or those who wish to brush up on their technique. Kranjska Gora has a small snowboard fun park. There is also the opportunity to try 'snow biking', descending the slopes on a custom bike fitted with skis instead of wheels. An exhilarating experience! Skocjan caves are 90 minutes drive from Bled in the Karst region; it is the 3rd largest cave system in the world and a truly amazing experience to explore the caves, travelling up to 280 metres below the earth's surface. Pension Berc
- Day 6
- We head to Mojstrana for a half-day winter walk into the picturesque local hills. In the afternoon we head to the valley of Krma, home to an excellent ice-climbing centre. We use a natural face, which is specially prepared for ice climbing. There is a small hut for changing and to have a warm drink. The centre is an official climbing area and has routes for first time climbers upwards. All routes will be done using a 'top-rope' for extra safety. Pension Berc
- Day 7
- There are over 300 kms of cross-country ski trails on the plateau of Pokljuka. This is where we spend our day learning the basics of this traditional winter sport. In a large group there will be 2 instructors so we can split the group according to ability. Pension Berc
- Day 8
- Free morning in Bled, before returning to Ljubljana. Fly from Ljubljana to Gatwick (18.30 - 19.50). Flight times subject to confirmation.
