We loved Slovenia - amazing scenery, great food, friendly people and much cheaper than elsewhere in Europe.  The snow-shoeing was challenging but the grading was spot on and it was very enjoyable.

What was the most inspirational moment of your trip?
The views from the top of the mountain on the third day.
What did you think of your group leader?

Both guides were very capable and worked hard to ensure we experienced the best possible conditions throughout the week.  The guide leader went out of his way to help us with transport and activities on our day off and our final day.

Do you have any advice for potential travellers?

Lublyana is a great place to visit on the day off/last day.  On the days you are snow-shoeing you have to pay for lunch in the mountain huts.  Lunch is not included in the price - it isn't expensive but there is little choice (barley soup is a staple) so if you aren't keen on soup and sausage you might want to take something to eat yourself.

Is there anything else you would like to add?

The one slight let down was the route for the overnight stay.  We were hoping for a circular route but it was a slog up to the hut for lunch, then a walk round the top and then back to the same hut in the afternoon, the same again the next morning and then back down the same way.  Our expectations would have been better managed if this was made clearer in the trip notes, as we were expecting to either do a point to point trip or a circular one with a little less repetition!

    • Some beautiful scenery when we finally got above the fog!
    • Fantastic views from the mountain hut – especially with 50cm of fresh snow and sunshine
    • They know how to make a good soup in Slovenia!

    • The hiking involves some steep-ish (but short) descents – possibly not for you if you are nervous of heights/steep slopes.
    • The mountain hut was clean and very comfortable.
    • At times we walked without the snow shoes in places where the snow was hard packed and icy – chains or spikes for your boots would be good.
    • It gets quite warm when the sun comes out (February).

Sunshine, snow and mountain trails, wonderful! Add in the history of the area, and friendly people and you have the perfect combination.

What was the most inspirational moment of your trip?
Looking down from the mountain hut at the valley below, with the lake hidden by a cloth of mist. Clear sky, tinged with gold from the setting sun. Tree clad cliff like mountains sweeping down into the mist....
What did you think of your group leader?
Learders were enthusastic and very helpful, but being young, didn't always read the limitations of their older clients well. We always felt safe and well looked after in their hands. We would not hesitate to travel with them again.
Do you have any advice for potential travellers?
Ear plugs, for the dorm accommodation at the mountain hut!
Is there anything else you would like to add?
    Enjoy!

What was the most inspirational moment of your trip?
There were many, but watching the sunrise over the lake from the window of the mountain hut on the overnight stay would be well up there.
What did you think of your group leader?
I knew we were going to be well looked after when my flight from Manchester arrived at 8pm, four hours before the rest of the group, & David our leader not only met me but, going well beyond the call of duty, drove me the half hour back to the hotel so I had a chance to get a reasonable amount of sleep. This proved to be something of a theme for the week as everyone involved in running the trip was incredibly friendly & really went out of their way to look after us- the highlight probably being our waiter (the hotel-owner's brother) treating us to a selection of Slovenian traditional songs in the hotel bar on the last night!
We were a bit short of snow at the level of the hotel, but every day David drove us to areas where we managed to walk in snowshoes pretty much all day. Slovenia is quite a small country & I think we probably drove over a good fraction of it getting to snowy walks.
Do you have any advice for potential travellers?
Unlike me, don't misplace your gaiters the week before you go...
Is there anything else you would like to add?
Don't expect to lose any weight on this trip- the walks are strenuous (especially when you persist in going back up the hillside so you can toboggan down for a second time...) but the food is generous and excellent. By happy coincidence, several of the treks reached mountain huts round about lunchtime. The mountain huts tend to be more like mountain restaurants, with hot food, apart from the one we stayed in overnight, which was more like a hotel that just happened to get its supplies delivered by cable car (& to be a bit short of water).

This was the first trip I had done alone and I thoroughly enjoyed it.  The group was friendly, accommodation excellent and the leaders helpful and thoughtful.

What was the most inspirational moment of your trip?
Walking around at the top of the mountain while the snow was falling.  It was exhilerating to be out in the snow with the mountains and beautiful scenery.
What did you think of your group leader?

Ales and Juri were excellent.  They looked after the group well, had a great sense of humour and were able to tell us about the country.

Do you have any advice for potential travellers?

I would like to have been a little bit fitter - the itinerary does involve walking up hills which can be hard work if the snow is deep.  You need to ensure your walking boots are waterproof - bring your nikwax to redo them if necessary.  Waterproof overtrousers are also a must.  The pension is really warm so there was no need for lots of thick jumpers for the evening.  I would say to anyone who is thinking about it to go for it - I was apprehensive but had no regrets.

Bastion (sorry if the name is wrongly spelt) has a lovely pension, he took us on a tour of the kitchen and the new rooms he is opening at the top of the house.  It was warm and spotlessly clean, constant hot water which was particularly welcome after spending a night at the mountain hut and walking back down through the rain and snow.
Is there anything else you would like to add?
If you think you might lose weight, don't hold out your hopes - the food was very substantial!

What was the most inspirational moment of your trip?

I enjoyed reaching summits and I enjoyed the lunches in mountain huts.

The group mixed and socialised well.

What did you think of your group leader?

We had two very able young leaders: Clem assisted by the charming Mojca.

Clem kept changing his tops much to the pleasure of some ladies who liked to admire his six-pack.

Do you have any advice for potential travellers?
The food is good but sausages and barley broth feature frequently in the local diet.
Is there anything else you would like to add?
Beautiful countryside and a great holiday. I would certainly want to take another Exodus trip in that part of the world.

The holiday was well thought out and the Slovenian leaders and hotel staff were excellent. Despite snow everywhere else in Europe it was limited at this time in Slovenia. The two leaders made every effort to take us out and find routes and the last day was spectacular. We had lunch in mountain huts and homemade soup and strudel was much appreciated. The hotel was excellent and they made a real effort to cater for non meat eaters.

What was the most inspirational moment of your trip?
The last day was brilliant with snow fit for snowshoeing right from the start. One of the leaders had a friend who she persuaded to go out into the hills and open a simple mountain hut for us. At the highest point of our day we were able to drink hot spiced wine and eat local cake. Magic.
What did you think of your group leader?
The two leaders, both called Mojca, were absolutely brilliant. When we got home there was an email from them with a photographic record of our week
