A great introduction to cross country skiing. Bob is an excellent tour leader, instructor, organiser, waiter, fixer of zips etc. Basically he is there all the time and will help you with anything. Ski area is great despite the fact that it was minus 25 when we started out on the first day.

This was a wonderful holiday. After a short transfer we arrived at the hotel where we were treated to a splendid four course meal, this continued every night! From the first day to the last we were skiing in incredibly beautiful scenery with spectacular views of the mountains and sometimes of the valley below when we were up in the mountains above the clouds. It was a lovely mix of recreational skiing with useful technique thrown in to help us improve. The hotel was fantastic, a sauna at the end of the day was much appreciated. All of our group (solo departures) gelled very quickly and I had a great time meeting lovely new people and sharing a lot of laughter and cheer with them.

What was the most inspirational moment of your trip?
It was all inspirational but the last day at Maria Waldrast stands out. It felt like we were explorers braving the elements to conquer a mountain after which there was a long descent back to the restaurant were we could enjoy a nice warm mug of gluhwein. It was Heaven.
What did you think of your group leader?
Bob was a fantastic leader; an amazing source of knowledge both local and general, he did a great job taking care of us. He made me feel 'at home' in Austria rather than just another tourist by helping us to integrate with the local community.
Do you have any advice for potential travellers?
    Take a camera!
Is there anything else you would like to add?
I can't wait for next winter so that I can enjoy another cross-country holiday!

This was my first time to do a full week of cross country skiing and it was brilliant for a beginner, with loads of different tracks to try. And the multi grade meant my much more experienced friend could go with the Grade 2s and we could get back together at the end of the day, which worked really well.

What was the most inspirational moment of your trip?
Making it to the same restaurant for lunch as the Grade 2s on the last day, and then getting back to base not that long after them on the way back. And all without falling over.
What did you think of your group leader?
Our overall group leader was Bob, who was brilliant and obviously has fantastic local knowledge. And special mention to Gareth who got the short straw on our week and had to lead the beginners, which he did with endless patience and encouragement.
Is there anything else you would like to add?
The Tirol is really lovely, and I really could not believe how few other skiers there were. This totally outweighed any concerns I might have had about having to get on a bus to get anywhere. Places that are a bit harder to get to are always worth it I guess. And the hotel was really lovely, so it didn't matter at all that there aren't other options in the evening in Trins.

This was my first cross-country skiing trip so I went in a Grade 1 group. By the end of the week we managed to ski around 15km in a day, and also successfully tackled some fairly challenging routes at Maria Waldrast. I thoroughly enjoyed the week.

What was the most inspirational moment of your trip?

The day at Maria Waldrast was amazing. We were lucky that we had had snow earlier in the week and then had a beautiful sunny day for our trip there. The views were incredible.

Learning to ski was in itself fantastic, in particular for me the day when I started to feel comfortable and much more confident on my skis.

What did you think of your group leader?

Bob was a really good teacher with seemingly endless patience. As we were beginners he spent some time teaching us basic techniques, in particular how to control our speed going downhill, but was also keen to give us opportunities to have some fun while out skiing.

Everything was organised down to the last detail. In particular all the transport to the different skiing areas worked perfectly. Bob was also happy to be flexible and helpful if people wanted to do something else for a day (for example, if you wanted to spend a day in Innsbruck, Bob has an information sheet with bus and train times!).

Is there anything else you would like to add?

Lunches are the only meals not included in the trip price, and these were good value at the places we visited. You could easily spend less than 10 euros a day on lunch and the portions were generous.

The hotel is clean and comfortable and there was always plenty of hot water for a welcome shower after a day out skiing. We enjoyed the bar as well!

Very well organised on the ground. Leader provided both thorough nuts and bolts information but was generally informative about the area which was bonus.

What was the most inspirational moment of your trip?
Snowploughing off the main track for the first time - under control!
What did you think of your group leader?
See above. Top rate on detail and attention to tour members. Clearly committed that Exodus is a responsible operator in the local community and sems to have achieved that status.
Do you have any advice for potential travellers?
You are there to ski as part of a group so be prepared to be sociable and both take and give and you will get the most out of it..
Is there anything else you would like to add?
Underline the confidence and security offerred by our leaders.

A well organised holiday with an excellant range of cross coutnry skiing opportunites.   The valleys we visited were peaceful and quiet and we met very few other skiers.   At the end of one valley a local framer puts in loipe just for the exodus groups.   The hotel is friendly and comfortable with good food - the vegetarian diet I had was good although nothing outstanding.   Breakfasts were quite substantial with healthy options.

What was the most inspirational moment of your trip?
Skiing on the Maria Waldrast plateau - the views were outstanding in all directions - we had two trips up there with different weather conditions and both were very beautiful.   The monastry is also an amazing place despite the busy chaos of lunch and they serve a great mug of gluhwein for after the skiing.   Another great moment was skiing down in the loipe of one valley at what one group member measured on his GPS as 33 km/hour.
What did you think of your group leader?
Bob was an excelllant leader and has clearly worked hard at building up local connections which meant that we had a warm welcome where ever we went.   Barbara who took the beginners group was very encouraged and I learnt some good warm up exercises from her that I shall use with other sports.
Do you have any advice for potential travellers?
Take some liner gloves as it can get very cold - our fingers were painful on the first day at -10 degrees.   Make sure you have a sauna in the hotel after skiing - very good for the muscles and a lovely end to the days activities.

We had been warned the week before departure that nature was not going to be very kind to us for our week, but in the end we were delighted to enjoy a full six days of excellent skiing from Trins. It was great to return there after our first trip as complete novices in 2004, especially as "Uncle" Bob (Mason) was there to welcome us back.

What was the most inspirational moment of your trip?
The return after seven years to Trins, now as Grade two skiers, meant we were able to enjoy the full circuit on two days at Maria Waldrast. The diference here is that instead of looking up at the mountains from the valley bottom you can look down at the valley from the summit, absolutely brilliant.
What did you think of your group leader?
"Uncle" Bob Mason is the business, he knows everything there is to know about the Trins area and must surely have earned the right to citizenship by now. He was a great tutor and leader and very patient with my enthusiasm to photograph everything.
Do you have any advice for potential travellers?
If you have not been there already then just go to Trins and enjoy the variety of runs available. Maria Waldrast is very special but do be patient with the monastic pace of life in the servery....
Is there anything else you would like to add?

The hotel is very friendly with excellent meals and comfortable rooms. Afternoon tea and cake is a bonus.

We were glad  to have a very good group of fellow skiers and the 1's and 2's all mixed in well.

The hire  equipment is not as good as at other Exodus centres. Glad we had our own boots.
