Day 2 - 7
This week we get instruction in both classic and skating techniques. The classic tuition (grade 2+) focuses on improving our technique and consists of a mix of instruction in the morning and touring in the afternoon, giving us the opportunity to explore the loipe. The skating technique is taught at level 1, so we get a chance to start from the basics to try and master this different style. At the end of the week, we are free to choose which technique to pursue and get some additional help and instruction from our leader.
We prefer not to specify in advance where we will ski each day. This is to enhance the flexibility and adapt to weather and snow conditions and to some extent the ability of each group. When choosing routes, the leader's priority will be to take in a variety of scenery and to ensure that participants become better and more confident skiers as the week progresses.
A selection of easy tracks is available for learning or revising the basics before moving on to more varied terrain, such as circuits to Mosern, or up to Wildmoosalm where many kilometres of loipe explore silent forests. The Leutasch Valley is off to the northwest, and here we can ski a further network of easy and moderate tracks. Several longer, more challenging days are possible by linking some of the more difficult routes, parts of which constitute previous Olympic and World Cup circuits. The scenery is outstanding, with snow-capped mountains of the Karwendal and Wetterstein ranges providing an inspiring backdrop.
