This is a popular cross-country skiing destination with skiers returning year after year. It is based in central Norway, on the edge of the Rondane National Park, looking down on the Gudbransdalen Valley, just north of Lillehammer.
The landscape is dramatic and full of contrasts from spectacular gorges and snow-capped peaks to pretty fells and valleys that extend as far as the eye can see. It is far enough north to have a good chance of seeing the Northern Lights too, especially in December and January, and throughout the winter there are spectacular sunrises and sunsets.
There are two guides at Venabu who will help you get started. During the week there are two groups to choose from and switching between groups mid-week is not a problem. You can also try dog sledding, or go on a torch-lit horse sleigh ride (pay locally).
Extra children's facilities are provided during February half-term, and also in Easter week. These include snow hole digging, an expedition with camp-fire cooking and a ski treasure hunt.
In partnership with Headwater
This trip is run in partnership with our sister company, Headwater, who offer more flexibility so you can ski as much or as little as you like. Children may join these holidays as long as they can participate in the activities and please note if travelling on your own, a single supplement will be applied. Insurance details are required at the time of booking.
What makes this trip responsible?
We avoid crowded downhill resorts, seeking out instead incredibly pretty, off-the-beaten-track mountain villages where life continues as it has for centuries. We choose small, family-run hotels, offering great regional cuisine, run by owners who take a genuine interest in their guests. This is the traditional heart of Norway - totally untouched by tourism - with dramatic landscapes, brightly painted houses and ancient wooden churches.
