Had a wonderful adventure, great group of people, totally awe inspiring environment.
- What was the most inspirational moment of your trip?
I guess I was apprehensive about the crampon-glacier experience, but keen to try it, so the most inspirational moment for me was when we all roped up and began to walk across the blue ice; realising that crampons made something otherwise impossible, completely do-able. I felt like a proper explorer!
Really enjoyed the snow shoeing, great being able to tramp across expanses of fresh snow, they make hills so much more do-able, up or down in a controlled fashion without slipping (mainly) : )
- What did you think of your group leader?
Our group leader was great, he explained things well, balanced the pace of the group so that all abilities were able to cope and had a ready supply of hot coffee and chocolate raisins for moments of need!
He did a great job of planning our activities around the weather, quite a tricky task, but we got to do everything on our itinery.
- Do you have any advice for potential travellers?
Would be good to let people planning this trip know that so long as their boots are reasonably rigid standard walking boots, they will be fine for attaching crampons to.
......GO.........!
- Is there anything else you would like to add?
My only thought would be that I would have enjoyed doing a bit more outdoor stuff and a bit less driving around, but given the weather I think we struck the best balance possible. I think we all really loved the first place we stayed at and would have liked to have been there a bit longer. Rekyavik definitely grew on me though and I was sad to say goodye to Iceland, a really great country.
Enjoyed the geothermal outdoor swimming pool in Rekjavik, wonderful swiimming through steam and hopping into the hot tubs for a warm up as the raindrops splashed the surface....aaah : )
