An excellent introduction to Iceland in winter! A well balanced trip mixing different activities and balancing exercise with sightseeing.

What was the most inspirational moment of your trip?
Difficult to pick a highlight but probably would go for the glacier trek. We were the only people in sight which is a welcome contrast from the Alps. Beautiful scenery with time to enjoy it. The emptiness of the country was outstanding! The Blue Lagoon is a good way to kick it off!
What did you think of your group leader?
Kristian was first class. He was everything you want in a leader - organised, friendly, knowledgable, attentive to his customers and keen to ensure everyone had a good time. He had to do quite a bit of driving in very tricky conditions (it was winter in Iceland after all!) and handled this very well which should not be underestimated. If I was returning to Iceland I'd be keen that he was my leader again.
Do you have any advice for potential travellers?
Layers, layers and more layers! Make sure you have good quality waterproofs. Iceland is expensive but perhaps not quite as expensive as you may think.
Is there anything else you would like to add?
Exodus, I think you need to change the name of this trip. Snowshoeing was only part of it and is weather dependant. This is not a complaint as the variety of activities was very welcome. I think something like "Iceland Winter Adventure" is much more representative of what you do.

A fantastic way to spend a week. I'd wanted to go to Iceland for a long time and the country did not disapoint. The scenery is spectacular and it's certainly left me with a desire to go back. Whilst I hadn't considered going in winter before, it turns out Iceland is warmer than, say Norway or Sweden, and even though layers were definitely needed it was constantly freezing. The weather was variable, sometimes it snowed but also, at times, the sun shown bright.

What was the most inspirational moment of your trip?
It's tough, the scenery as a whole really. The glaciers are stunning and the glacier walk was fantastic. Also seeing the progression of the ice from glacier to lagoon to beach to sea was quite special. Not to mention all the geo-thermal stuff and the fact that you can find yourself between continents.
What did you think of your group leader?
Kristian was a great leader. Always helpful and well organised. When the conditions meant we couldn't quite do the scheduled activities he organised great alternatives. Very friendly guy and always keen to talk about Iceland, its history, culture and nature which he is clearly very passionate about.
Do you have any advice for potential travellers?
Bring layers and just carry them around then you can pick and chose how many to wear when you leave the bus to hike or whatever it may be. If you're hoping to see the Northern Lights (we only saw a glow unfortunately but I hear that previous groups had more luck) and are keen to photograph them make sure you have decen camera equipment.
Is there anything else you would like to add?
If you've been thinking of going to Iceland go. And this is a great trip to start exploring this country with. I'm sure I'll be back. Probably in Summer next time but only so that I can see it at a different time of year. I'd have no issues returning in winter. Oh, and it turns out Iceland is not quite as expensive as I thought it was going to be (not cheap but better than I thought).

Despite initial concerns about the lack of snow, the whole holiday was so packed with sights and experiences we wondered when we would have found time to do more snowshoeing. The country has a lot to offer whatever the weather.

What was the most inspirational moment of your trip?
Walking on  the glacier in beautiful sunshine was one high point in many. The glacier was a wonderful blue colour and as it was free of snow we could walk into the ice formations and descend into a crevass to see it all more clearly. Other highlights incude lava tubes, snow shoeing and the northern lights.
What did you think of your group leader?
Kristjan is an enthusiastic leader who worked hard to ensure that, despite a lack of snow, all our time was filled. He was very informative and entertaining with a good sense of humour and he was also very supportive of all the group members.
Do you have any advice for potential travellers?
This trip is advertised as a snow shoeing trip but we only had one good day on the snow because of the conditions. In order to visit all the sights there are quite long minibus journeys which are broken up by visits to waterfalls, glacier lagoon, mud pool etc.

This was a terrific trip.  We had previously been on the Glaciers, Geysers and Waterfalls trip and had loved Iceland so much that we wanted to return. This was much more than a snowshoeing holiday and lived up to all expectations.

What was the most inspirational moment of your trip?
There were many.  Walking on the glacier, visiting the thermal springs at Krisuvik, seeing the Jokulsarlon glacier lagoon and the icebergs on the black beach, snoeshowing through the volcanic scenery  and exploring the lava tube were all brilliant experiences.  We also were lucky enough to see the Northern Lights.
What did you think of your group leader?
Kristjan was an excellent leader who made sure that we got the most out of our holiday. He was sociable, knowledgable and concerned to make sure that everyone was comfortable with what we were doing.  The stay at the remote guest house near Vatnajokull meant that he had to do a lot of driving and was working long hours, but he remained flexible and enthusiastic throughout.
Do you have any advice for potential travellers?

    Go!

Is there anything else you would like to add?
This wasn't simply a snoeshoeing holiday, it was a winter adventure.  If there had been more snow, we wouldn't have managed to fit in so many other fantastic experiences.

Great landscape, enjoyable activities, interesting people...a brilliant trip.

What was the most inspirational moment of your trip?

Cramponing on the glacier and ice climbing - I've been to the indoor ice climbing in London so brilliant to give it a go outdoors.

    Banter on the bus!

Views and photo opportunities at every turn.  I'm not one for being snap happy but some of the scenery really was stunning.

The Skogar museum - the founder/guide is an absolute legend!

What did you think of your group leader?
Hussy was great.  So knowledgeable about his country and very laid back and approachable.  Even rescues purses that have been left in the guest house ...thanks!
Do you have any advice for potential travellers?

You do not get fed on Iceland Air flights as I had assumed.  Non alcoholic beverages are free but take your own lunch...your evening meal is a long time away.

The crampons will fit on standard hiking/walking boots, no matter what outdoor stores assistants tell you!

You do not need to take linen, except a swimming towel.  Both guest houses we stayed in had great facilities, double check with Exodus if you are unsure.

We swam a lot, not just in the Blue Lagoon.  The pool facilities are mainly outdoors but well heated and perfect for unwinding in.  Just don't forget to wash thoroughly before entering the pools, it's insisted upon.

Is there anything else you would like to add?

Because it was winter and there was heaps of snow in the UK, I assumed there would be plenty of snow in Iceland - not really correct.  There was snow but not enough for the snowshoeing that dominated our activity list.  We hiked instead which was great...but just don't be disappointed if you don't snow shoe as much as expected.

Also none of our group went snowmobiling due to the cost - the company was charging in Euros.  You will probably have to share a snow mobile and the session is quite short - I'm sure it would have been awesome but be prepared to shell out if it's your type of thing.

A fantastic activity based trip - enjoy!

A Fantastic holiday in an amazing country!  Everything I had hoped for, and then a little bit more.

What was the most inspirational moment of your trip?

The vast volcanic landscapes are truly awe-inspiring.  The views changed as the weather changed, and there seemed to always be a another photo opportunity around every corner.

What did you think of your group leader?
Hysky (sp?) was brilliant.  He had his work cut out as the itinerary is snow-based, and at the beginning of the week we had a distinct lack of the white stuff.  However, he adapted the itinerary so that we were never bored or disappointed.  His passion for his country was infectious, and we learnt a lot about Iceland along the way.
Do you have any advice for potential travellers?

Don't attach snowshoes vertically to the outside of your rucksack!  ;o)

Take a large capacity memory card, or plenty of spare film.  It's easy to underestimate just how many photos you'll want to take.

Is there anything else you would like to add?
If you're thinking about booking this trip....stop thinking and just do it!
