Great landscape, enjoyable activities, interesting people...a brilliant trip.
- What was the most inspirational moment of your trip?
Cramponing on the glacier and ice climbing - I've been to the indoor ice climbing in London so brilliant to give it a go outdoors.
Banter on the bus!
Views and photo opportunities at every turn. I'm not one for being snap happy but some of the scenery really was stunning.
The Skogar museum - the founder/guide is an absolute legend!
- What did you think of your group leader?
- Hussy was great. So knowledgeable about his country and very laid back and approachable. Even rescues purses that have been left in the guest house ...thanks!
- Do you have any advice for potential travellers?
You do not get fed on Iceland Air flights as I had assumed. Non alcoholic beverages are free but take your own lunch...your evening meal is a long time away.
The crampons will fit on standard hiking/walking boots, no matter what outdoor stores assistants tell you!
You do not need to take linen, except a swimming towel. Both guest houses we stayed in had great facilities, double check with Exodus if you are unsure.
We swam a lot, not just in the Blue Lagoon. The pool facilities are mainly outdoors but well heated and perfect for unwinding in. Just don't forget to wash thoroughly before entering the pools, it's insisted upon.
- Is there anything else you would like to add?
Because it was winter and there was heaps of snow in the UK, I assumed there would be plenty of snow in Iceland - not really correct. There was snow but not enough for the snowshoeing that dominated our activity list. We hiked instead which was great...but just don't be disappointed if you don't snow shoe as much as expected.
Also none of our group went snowmobiling due to the cost - the company was charging in Euros. You will probably have to share a snow mobile and the session is quite short - I'm sure it would have been awesome but be prepared to shell out if it's your type of thing.
A fantastic activity based trip - enjoy!
