Itinerary
- Day 1
- Depart London.
- Day 2
- We meet at Livingstone International Airport and will be transferred to our campsite, the Maramba River Lodge on the banks of the Zambezi River. This afternoon we visit the famous Victoria Falls, or Mosi-oa-Tunya' - 'the Smoke that Thunders' which plunges 100 meters into the Batoka Gorge below. Maramba River Lodge has a wonderful swimming pool and a relaxed atmosphere.
- Day 3
- In the morning we use the Kazangula ferry to cross into Botswana, and we travel south to the old frontier town of Nata. We set up camp at Nata Lodge and enjoy a refreshing swim before heading out to the impressive Nata Bird Sanctuary. Around 165 bird species, including king-fishers, eagles, ostriches, pelicans, spoonbills and both greater and lesser flamingos, have been recorded here. This afternoon we also take a short walk on the nearby Sua Pan and watch the sunset over this beautiful landscape.
- Day 4
- Today we take a short walk on the vast expanse of the Makgadikgadi Salt Pan before continuing our journey to Maun (pronounced as in town), the gateway into the Okavango Delta. We set up camp at Audi Camp on the bank of the Thamalakane River. This afternoon is free to enjoy the shaded pool or to explore the town of Maun or an excellent optional flight over the Okavango Delta which is definitely worth doing to appreciate the vastness of the world's largest inland delta.
- Day 5
- After an early start we transfer into the Okavango Delta and meet our polers from the Bayei tribe with their mokoros. These fascinating people live in several small villages in the delta. They will be looking after us during our stay in the Okavango Delta. We spend the next few hours gliding along the Delta river course. In the late afternoon our knowledgeable polers take us on an interesting short game walk in this pristine wilderness.
- Day 6
- This morning we wake up before sunrise and set off for another game walk. This is a wonderful opportunity to learn some bush knowledge and gain some insight into these once nomadic river people. We return to camp for a well-earned brunch before repacking the mokoros and returning to civilization in Maun!
- Day 7
- Leaving Maun we enter Moremi Game Reserve at Southgate and game drive through this vast wilderness to our camp. Moremi is described as one of the most beautiful game reserves in Africa. Boasting dense concentrations of game at any time of the year, Moremi supports a wide range of habitats from woodlands, floodplains, reed beds, permanent wetland through mopane and acacia forests to dry savannahs and secluded lagoons. It is the great diversity of plant and animal life that makes Moremi so well known.
- Day 8
- We have a full day for game drives through the reserve. We normally set out for an early morning game drive before returning to camp for brunch and then setting out for the afternoon drive and returning at sunset.
- Day 9
- After breaking down camp we game drive out of Moremi Game Reserve through Northgate. Here we have a brief stop at the Bushman village and a chance to restock cold drinks from these remarkable people. We then drive over the great sand ridge before entering Chobe National Park. We drive past the now dry Savuti Marsh and on to our camp near the famous elephant watering hole.
- Day 10
- We have another full day for game drives through the reserve. We normally drive out onto the Savuti marsh visiting all the waterholes with a very good chance of seeing elephant and some of the predators that live in this region.
- Day 11
- We leave Savuti and drive through the Chobe Forest Reserve and re-enter the Chobe National Park at Ngoma gate. We reach the town of Kasane after lunch in time to catch the Chobe River cruise. This has to be one of the best river cruises in Africa with a very good chance of seeing some of the magnificent elephant herds coming down to drink on the banks of the Chobe River plus hippos and crocodiles and fantastic sunsets.
- Day 12
- In the morning we complete the circle by renegotiating the Kazangula ferry back into Zambia. We set up camp at Maramba River Lodge and the afternoon is free for optional activities or just to relax at the swimming pool.
- Day 13
- We have a full free day to enjoy some of the many optional activities that are on offer, white water rafting, elephant back safaris or sightseeing flights over the falls just to mention a few.
- Day 14
