See wildlife and stunning landscapes as well as learn about local culture in this malaria-free part of Africa. We'll have an opportunity to meet endangered wildlife and hear about the conservation issues involving cheetah, meerkats and elephants. Marvel at seals and penguins whilst exploring the Cape Peninsula and the Cape of Good Hope, and spot whales in Hermanus. We visit Gugulethu Township in the heart of Cape Flats and get a glimpse of its culture before trying traditional Xhosa face-painting and cooking in a local home. After exploring the rugged coastline of the Garden Route we head to the cosmopolitan city of Cape Town, watched over by the impressive Table Mountain.

What makes this trip responsible?

The Cheetah Outreach that we visit is an education and community-based programme created to raise awareness and campaign for cheetah survival. The elephant sanctuary in Plettenberg bay offers a 'halfway house' for young African orphan elephants in need of a temporary home.

GARDEN ROUTE AND MEERCATS - FAMILY HOLIDAY

Day 1

Depart London.

Day 2

Arrive Cape Town, transfer to the cape winelands; visit Cheetah Outreach Project and a vineyard.

Day 3

Drive to Oudtshoorn; stay in farm guesthouse.

Day 4

Early morning excursion to see meerkats; Cango Caves and ostrich farm visits (both optional).

Day 5

Travel to Knysna; visit Elephant Sanctuary.

Day 6

Free day; try canoeing, take a boat safari to the Featherbed Reserve, visit Monkey Island or Tsitsikama N.P. (all optional).

Day 7

Short drive to the seaside town of Wilderness; afternoon free.

Day 8

Drive along the Garden Route to Hermanus; free time for activities; whale watching (June to October) or sea kayaking (both optional).

Day 9

To Cape Town; Cape Flats Township Tour; summit Table Mountain by cable car (optional).

Day 10

Cape Peninsula tour; visit penguins at Boulders Beach, a seal colony and the Cape of Good Hope.

Day 11

Depart Cape Town.

Day 12

Arrive London.
