The holiday was very good, could have done with more info before going such as weather, didn't think Africa could be so cold! even in their winter. The guest houses were OK but not great with the exception of Ousthorne which was very nice. None of the others had adequate heating for the weather.  A bit more info about the amount of optional trips and the cost, which was significant, would also have helped. The reality is that you end up doing the optional trips because what's the alternative? The general assumption was that everyone would do the same thing and go on most if not all optional trips.

A fantastic holiday! We stayed in some lovely properties, including Oue Werf country house at Oudtshoorn where the surroundings were beautiful with views of the mountains. The scenery throughout the trip was stunning with mountain ranges and stunning coastlines.

What was the most inspirational moment of your trip?
What can I say - too many wonderful highlights to pick one! However we loved Addo elephant national park, where we saw a herd of elephants walk right in front of the vehicle  and also whale watching at Hermanus and along the coast. We also enjoyed many of the optional excursions organised by our guide including riding and feeding the elephants at Crags elephant sanctuary, a lovely canoe trip along a river and Tsisikamma Falls Adventure where we went on zip wires across a river and waterfalls. We also loved the walks, including the walk at Cape of Good Hope and at Hermanus.
What did you think of your group leader?
Our guide JP was fantastic and went out of his way to ensure that the whole group enjoyed their holiday. He was really knowledgeable about nature, politics and history. He booked fantastic restaurants for us to dine in as a group and was always able to suggest a variety of optional excursions.
Do you have any advice for potential travellers?
If your guide can arrange it, We would suggest a trip to Schotia safari park (this trip includes 2 game drives, afternoon tea and a meal around open fires in the evening). We saw lion, rhino, giraffe, zebra, hippo to mention a few - don't forget the binoculars (although sometimes the animals were so close you didn't need them)
Is there anything else you would like to add?
A fantastic holiday with lots to do and lots of optional extras (not all included in the Exodus information, so ask the guide for information). Our 15 year old son loved the holiday. If you like shopping and lazing around this trip is not for you - lots of early starts but well worth getting up early for!!

A great famiy friendly experience - excellent guides and a first-rate range of experiences, from a nineteenth century  Afrikaans farmhouse to an old game park inn, townships and the sophistication of Capetown harbour

What was the most inspirational moment of your trip?

watching wild elephants at the watering hole in the Addo Elephant Park, driving back in the dead of night, looking at the sky and listening to the shrill calls of hyenas, driving over the mountains to a drier world of ostriches and arriving at a white farmhouse in a hamlet with church tower, straight out out of nineteenth century Holland, hearing about the post apartheid world and the great political and social challenges which remain, seeing indigenous African art, visiting magnficent beaches, feeling the water on our feet grow colder, visiting Cape Point and imaging we could see the south pole.....

What did you think of your group leader?
Our two leaders were great.  Nothing was too much trouble and they worked ceaselessly to find out about places we would like to visit, taking all the stress out of everyday things like choices of restaurant in the evening. It was a real bonus to have local guides who helped us understand the social and political world of South Afirca, its challenges and growing pains. They exemplified the warnth and friendliness of the people we met. were always overwhelmingly honest and patient - a credt to Exodus and their  nation.
Do you have any advice for potential travellers?
It's a great experience.  The cost of linving there is very low - a botle of wine in a restaurant will cost about £3.50 and dinner for three was rarely over £20.  Bear in mind there are some fairly long days of travelling in a 4x4, so young children may struggle a little with parts of the initerary.
