Frequently Asked Questions
About Your Trip
Pete Burrell, our Manageing Director, travelled on this trip with his family and you can read his article to get a personal viewpoint of the holiday.
What kind of meals can we expect?
Dinners at Lake Elementaita are 3 course affairs and we have one picnic lunch in Lake Nakuru National Park. The rest of the time, a packed breakfast consisting of fruit, cakes, juice and coffee/tea is taken out on the plains or a cooked breakfast can be taken at camp. A 3-course dinner is taken (weather permitting) by candlelight under the African sky...very cosy!

Will I be able to charge my camera batteries in the Mara?
Yes! At the lodge at Lake Elementaita you will have your own room and you can therefore charge batteries with no problem. At the private camp there are facilities to charge your batteries in the main dining tent. However saying this, I would advise to take extra batteries as most passengers will want to charge batteries in the evenings so you will need to wait your turn. Any hotel nights won't be a problem, and make sure you take a universal adaptor with you.

Will I be able to have hot showers in the Mara?
Yes, hot showers are provided every evening in your tents. They are bucket showers that are topped up with hot water. Use the water sparingly so you don't run out!
Kai Aylward - Sales
Is it worth doing the Balloon Safari?
Yes, without a doubt! Nothing can prepare you for the experience of floating over the Masai Mara and seeing the animals in action from above. It is very special, and well worth the early morning start.

Kenya Specific Questions
Is it easy to get a Kenyan visa on arrival?
Yes, for British passport holders it is quite straightforward. The cost is $50. Other nationalities should check with the nearest embassy.
Tom Bowring - Customer Operations
What currency is best for Kenya?
We recommend that you take most of your money in either Sterling or US dollars cash. You will be changing it into the local Kenya Schilling on arrival and using this day to day. It is best to change money at the airport in Nairobi and ATM machines are availabile there as well. Credit Cards are accepted at most points on the trips if you get stuck as well!

Charlotte Taylor - Customer Operations
What kind of clothing is best?
Lightweight clothing for the day time, as the sun can be quite strong. Bring warmer layers for the cooler evenings and early mornings, when temperatures can drop surprisingly due to the altitude a lot of Kenya sits at.

Family Groups Specific Questions
Are there any age restrictions for our Family Adventure Holidays?
To book on a Family Adventure Holiday at least one member of the family must be under the age of 18. For individual trips a minimum age will also be specified - see the Essential Information tab for the particular trip you are interested in. Please note there may also be a minimum age for certain activities on your chosen holiday.
Is a family adventure right for my family?
If you are the sort of family that enjoys meeting other families and have a passion for discovering new places and trying new activities, then you’ll love going on a Family Adventure. With a Tour Leader to take care of daily arrangements, you can relax and get on with the serious business of spending time with your family and enjoying your holiday. And it’s not just parents who take their children away; we’ve had a number of children travelling with just their grandparents too!
Itineraries are carefully planned to provide a good balance of activity and relaxation time. You can opt to stay with the group all the time or go off and do your own thing every now and then. Your leader will be on hand to help you find your way and organise optional activities. And if the local food isn’t pleasing everyone in the party, it’s usually possible to sneak off to the occasional pizza parlour or similar, to get something a little more familiar.
Our holidays are designed to take you to unusual or remote places, give you exciting experiences and allow you to make the most of your precious holiday time. As with all adventure holidays, there is inevitably an element of risk that you might not find on a resort-based package. However, safety is taken very seriously and our professional leaders will take all necessary precautions to run the trip safely. You will get to see wonderful sights, have the opportunity to interact with local people and create memories that will stay with you forever. Come with us and let us share our passion for travel with you!
