Reality Check

We strongly recommend that you read the essential information in the Families brochure before booking this holiday.

This holiday is designed so that you can see the best parts of Thailand using a mixture of private buses, boats and a flight. There is a lot to see in the time you are there, but it is paced so that it doesn't feel too rushed. Travel time is kept to a minimum although there are a few longer drives but there is plenty of time for sightseeing and the trip has numerous stops where we spend two or more nights.

The hilltribe trek is relatively relaxed and within the capabilities of families who are keen walkers.

Whilst choosing this trip please note that some of the accommodation will be basic but is clean and tidy. The swimming pools may not be up to western standards. Risk of malaria is present in parts of Thailand.

Locals and other Asian tourists may want to take photos of themselves with your children particularly if they are young, blond and have blue eyes, you should be prepared for them to do this without asking permission first. You will be encouraged to respect the dress code at the Royal palace in Bangkok. Men must wear long trousers and shirts with sleeves, no tank tops. If you're wearing sandals or flip-flops you must wear socks (in other words, no bare feet.) Women must be similarly modestly dressed. No see-through clothes, bare shoulders. If you show up at the front gate improperly dressed, there is a booth near the entry that can provide clothes to cover you up properly.

Normal group size and age

Normally 5 to 18, plus leader and appropriate local guides. Minimum age 5.

Family Groups Going on a Family Group trip is a fantastic way to meet new friends and create lasting friendships – for parents and children alike! These holidays combine exploration with sociability and fun, as other families will join you. Minimum ages vary across the trip range, but is usually from 5 years old.

Teenage Departures available Our Family Group holidays usually cater for children from 5 years old. However, experience tells us that children tend to prefer mixing with their own age groups, especially teenagers. That’s why we’ve designated certain departures on our group trips as particularly recommended for teenagers. Whilst we don't restrict younger kids from joining these holidays, the 'recommended for teenagers' departures means there are likely to be other teenagers to share the experience with.

Mixed Activity Mixed Activities: Activities may range from the ordinary (for example walking, cycling or whitewater rafting) to the damn right extraordinary (including caving, camel riding or canyoning).

Wildlife Wildlife: Trips may be wholly wildlife focused, or contain an element of wildlife viewing within a less specific itinerary.

Family Activity All Exodus trips are active but some may have different activities scheduled every day. Activities we offer include kayaking in Slovakia, trekking in the Drakensberg, cycling in the Tuscan countryside or canoeing along the Zambezi River.
