Arrive at our hotel in the early evening.
We take a short 1-hour transfer this morning to the foothills of the Atlas Mountains, to the small village of Tachbibt. With beautiful views of the surrounding mountains, we enjoy a short walk to a picturesque area for a picnic lunch. In the afternoon, we continue through pastoral landscape to the village of Ait Zitoun. We see the rural side to Morocco and enjoy meeting many of the Berber people on our walk through their beautiful countryside.
Today we make the most of being in the mountains by taking a walk through the beautiful surrounding scenery. Our walk through vegetable patches, wheat and corn fields, oranges and olive plantations shows us the rich agriculture of this fertile land. We enjoy our picnic in a shaded spot and journey back to the village for our evening meal. The length of our walk today is adapted to the ability of the group so this can be shortened if needed and it is also optional so you may choose to simply relax at the villager's house should you prefer.
Our journey to the coast today is the longest journey of the week (4 hours) and we see how quickly the Moroccan landscape can change. We go from the beautiful rural mountain landscape to the outskirts of busy Marrakech and then the land seems to flatten out until we reach the exciting port town of Essaouira. In the afternoon, there is time to explore the charming medina, enjoy seafood at the fish stalls by the harbour, learn about the signs and symbols of the local craftspeople in the museum or simply relax on the long sandy beach.
After a short transfer this morning to Sidi M'Barek, we enjoy a wonderful walk along the beach surrounded by Argan trees. Our walk would not be complete without some traditional tea in a villager's house before arriving at Sidi Kaouki. This small town is well-known for having one of the most beautiful beaches in Morocco with its pretty sand dunes. We transfer back to Essaouira for our evening meal.
We have our final chance this morning to visit all the souks of Essaouira and pick up some last minute crafts or simply relax on the beach. In the early afternoon, we transfer back to Marrakech (3 hours) for a very different aspect of southern Morocco. Our hotel has a swimming pool and is based in the new area, just a 25-minute walk from the Djemaa el Fna Square. This evening you may choose to enjoy a 'caleche' ride (horse-drawn carriage) to get your bearings around the 'Pink City'.
Our morning is spent on a guided walking tour of this fascinating city to help you get your bearings then the afternoon is free for your own exploration. Perhaps a visit to the peaceful Majorelle Gardens, decorated throughout in Indigo Blue for Yves Saint Laurent or simply relax and try a traditional Hamman (steam bath) - a real highlight of Morocco. In the evening we can visit the Djemma el Fna, the open-air central square around Marrakech revolves, with bustling bazaars in all directions. The name literally means 'place of death' as it was the place where the Sultans used to display the heads of their enemies. Now, with the foodstalls, snake charmers, water-sellers, travelling musicians and acrobats, the square is a place of entertainment for both Moroccan and overseas visitors.
Transfer to airport after breakfast for flight to London.
