Yet again Exodus delivers!!  This trip encompasses everything Morocco has to offer,  and allows one to experience the essence of Moroccan culture and rural family life, together with the crazy buzz and sensory overload defined as Marrakech!!  It especially gives children real insight into how simplicity and working together with the land and basic resources provides a sustainable income and how modern life and gadgets can be a route cause of communication problems!!

What was the most inspirational moment of your trip?

An inspirational moment was watching the Berber children in the Berber village welcome our little girl, a complete stranger, into their world to play a simple game with stones on the roof of the gite, without a single toy, let alone DS or Wii in sight!! With no common language, the game went on for nearly 2 hours uninterrupted!!

One MUST experience a full 'netoyage' in the Hammam at the gite in the Berber village- an experience never to be forgotten!!

Another unforgettable moment was nearly falling off the camel as he descended what seemed to be a steep cliff, but in reality, only a mild incline- one does have to hold on for dear life, whilst he gets up and down!!

For inspirational places, a must see in Marrakech, 'The Jardins Marjorelle' (the gardens of Yves St Laurent), and the Moderna Ben Youseff - well worth a visit for incredible architecture!!

What did you think of your group leader?

Hassan, our leader was OUTSTANDING in every way!!

Up in the mountains, his knowledge and understanding of the local people, and the language (being of Berber descent himself),was the reason our trip was so meaningful . His very flexible approach, guiding gently, rather than being too exuberant and controlling, allowed us to set the pace and tone of our trip.

His rapport with the local Berber family up in the mounrtains, and equally the more sophisticated hoteliers in the city, ensured we felt comfortable and well looked after.

He was  EXTREMELY child friendly and helpful, with a genuine passion for what he does, ensuring we had a good time, at all times, being very clear about the programme of the day.

Do you have any advice for potential travellers?

What you see is what you get. As suggested in the very detailed and accurate trip notes, accomodation, especially in the Berber village, is very basic- hygeine, ablutions, the availability of water and sometimes electricity, not always guaranteed. This in itself, however made it all the more interesting!!!

Up in the mountains, the evening temperature can fall, and we had snow on the Atlas, so a good 3 season sleeping bag and a thick fleece is essential.

My lifesaver, and a MUST TAKE, are plenty of little packets of wet wipes and tissues, ( for the whole trip) as well as toilet paper and wipes for in the Berber village.

It is essential, for children as well, to have good, comfortable walking boots, not just trainers.

Essaouira, which  was a  favourite  of the whole trip, is delightful. It would however be advisable, to ask your leader to PRE ARRANGE a camel, ( about £20 for the whole morning), especially if there are children, for the very long beach walk, which is spectacular, at Sidu Kouki. It is a long way for little, and older, fatigued feet!!

Toilets and hygeine throughout the trip, esp places of interest, not always pristine, to say the least!!

Is there anything else you would like to add?

A  fantastic trip, very well organised and structured.

I would however add, that although there is  toddler availabilty on some trips, some aspects of the accomodation, the pace of the trip, the long walks and especially the unpredictabilty, noise and apparent mayhem  in Marrakech, could all be too much, and probably rather frightening for children under 6 years of age.

The guided walk in Marrakech, our favourite bit about Marrakech, (which was unfortunately on the last day of our trip,) was MOST informative, and brought together the history, the diverse culture and religion of the people  of Morocco. It would be helpful to have a brief written summary provided,(as dictated by our guide Mohammed,) to read pre trip and certainly before the guided walk around Marrakech. Reading it all from a guide book, is just not the same!!

Lastly, beware of unscrupulous taxi drivers (and hagglers in the souks) in Marrakech, who charge a fortune to the undiscerning traveller- always ask the taxi fare before accepting the ride, and take advise re haggling before one buys, especially in Marrakech!!

I would recommend this trip, (way above staying at an exclusive resort,) but one needs to have a sense of humour and be relatively down to earth!!!

A great family holiday only a few hours from home.

What was the most inspirational moment of your trip?
The variety of the country was the best thing about the trip. We spent two days in the mountains walking through small villages with donkeys and then a couple of days on the coast, which was very relaxing. We then made our way back to Marrakech which is a very exciting city. Morocco is an incredibly photogenic country.
What did you think of your group leader?
Hassan was great with the kids and organised everything well but allowed you plenty of free time if that is what you wanted.
Do you have any advice for potential travellers?
The walk along the beach was quite long but children will always walk when in a group. The donkeys certainly helped in the mountains.
Is there anything else you would like to add?
This trip was great for February. The weather was very good and it's only a three hour flight from home.

A wonderful holiday for children and adults with a great balance between the culture and bustle of Marrakech, the tranquillity of the hills and relaxation at the sea-side in beautiful Essaouira. This was a really good way for the children (and us) to experience many different aspects of a very different culture first hand.

What was the most inspirational moment of your trip?

The children loved riding the donkeys in the hills, and encounters with baby goats and other animals. They also enjoyed the beach and swimmimg in the Atlantic in February!

We adults loved the hills too, being able to get out for 2 days "trekking" somewhere extraordinary for the first time since having children, without any complaints from them, was bliss. Fantastic food too (superb bread and honey, and tagine) , friendly hosts, a wonderful view from the roof of the farm, and a memorable steam bath in their little hammam.

What did you think of your group leader?

Hassan was a very good, easy going leader, we would not have experienced the real rural Morocco the way we did without him. He chatted and joked easily with the children who thought he was great.

Do you have any advice for potential travellers?

This was a great trip to introduce the children to travel outside Europe, they had never previously been further than France. Going with another family made it all the more enjoyable for them, and they enjoyed meeting and playing with local children on the farm.

The Djemma el Fna was not popular with the children, they really didn't like the snake charmers and men with monkeys on chains, or the constant hassle from selllers which they found much harder to ignore than we did. They found the concept of haggling very strange, but got used to it after a week. It took us a week to get used to it too and realise how not to be overcharged for taxis etc.

Is there anything else you would like to add?
The hotel in Marrakech was fine (clean and comfortable) but a long way from nearly all places of interest, and rather lacking in atmosphere.

I've been on a few Exodus trips and as always we were very well looked after.  This holiday provided variety and entertainment for the children - although the amount of travelling was a bit tiring.

What was the most inspirational moment of your trip?

Mountains - Lovely walks in the Atlas foothills.  Beautiful sunrises and sunsets.  Lived amongst the local people, one of whom gave me a loverly henna tattoo on my foot.

Beach - The beach walk was spectacular (although long).

City - Marrakesh was the highlight.  The square, Jemma El Fna, is one of the most vibrant places on earth and the kids were captivated by the snake charmers.  A definite must see.

What did you think of your group leader?
Mohammed was very able, very friendly and had excellent English.  He was really good with the kids and kept up their spirits by having a joke with them.
Do you have any advice for potential travellers?

Mountains - You dont really need a 3 seasons sleeping bag as blankets are provided at the gites.  Mules are available so the kids can hitch a ride if they get tired.

Beach - This is a really, really long walk - 5 hours.  We were rather jaded by the end of it.  No mule back-up, so the kids had to walk the whole way.  Make sure you have plenty of room in your back-pack as the kids will definitely want you to carry their clothes, jackets and shoes.  Sun screen essential.  When we did it, the sky was overcast, but the sun was strong and we all were sunburnt by the end.

Marrakech - Try and gather some Moroccan coins before the Marrakech part of the trip.  The locals in the square will chase you for payment every time you take a photo.  Better to have some coins at hand than flashing a wallet full of notes.  Eat at one of the restaurants overlooking the square - the square comes alive at night and is best viewed from an elevated position.

Travel - There's a good 3 or 4 hours by mini-bus between the mountains and the beach (and back again!) - so not great if you're not a sound traveller (like me!).   Take sweets and plenty to drink to keep you hydrated.

Is there anything else you would like to add?
This was a very good trip. We were accompanied by another two families, so the kids made plenty of friends and were well entertained.  The itinerary was quite full, so little chance of the kids getting bored.  It was very hot in April (even in the mountains), so dont overpack thinking it's going to be cold.  Take a supply of elastoplasts/dressings for blisters, grazes etc.
